Fabulous 121 this morning with Max. He’s progressed so well since I last saw him. We worked on 🐾 how to deal with counter surfing 🐾 jumping up and biting tips 🐾 auto sits 🐾 Finding Heel 🐾 Recall Whistle and games to ensure it’s a value game. 🐾 Progressing Down 🐾 and most importantly Play. I recommend @tugenuff toys as they are so well made and they have an excellent customer service. This rabbit squeaker toy was a real hit with Max. 😊
From time to time I am asked what is something that is important to teach my puppy right away? My answer for this is a strong recall! We try to imprint this on our puppies as soon as they are introduced to food. Every time I lay their food dish down, I say “Puppy Puppy Puppy” in a high pitch and excited voice! You will never believe how quick this catches on and no sleeping puppy will ever miss a meal when they hear that puppy call!! Now that they are older I am starting it outside with them. I wait until they are distracted but still fairly close to me. I call them over and have now added “come” to the end of my puppy call and have treats ready for instant reward for coming all the way to my hand. They walk around the yard and I call them back a few different times so that it is fun and not being called to go inside or in a crate. To avoid this being something that the choose not to listen to I keep these things in mind… If one of them was not being responsive I would add a long lead to them to reinforce the recall. I only call them if I feel confident they will come. I use the same recall word or phrase every time. I reward with super yummy treats that are not used often!

Here's a fun little game you can play to help strengthen your dog's response to your recall whistle cue. 💾 Save this for later... It's combining your recall cue with the engagement of the Hand Target cue 'Touch'. Here's how you play it as a Game: - With your dogs attention ready to play, throw a piece of food away from you - Once they've eaten it, blow your recall cue, then when they're about a foot or 2 away, cue your 'touch' cue. If you've not got a Touch cue, scroll back through my grid and posts as I've already explained how. - Click/mark the 'touch' then reset - by throwing the food out again. No need to pay to mouth.
