Already Day 6 #ALOlovessplits ❤️🎉❤️ . Day 6: split with heart opener . It’s no secret I’m not the bendiest on the block 😬😂but I really do try 😂Grabbed my strap for some seated flip grip work and wooo dropping into wheel from handstand 😵😳😂It gets me every time 😂😂I’d much rather drop back into it 😂but anywhooo fun to change it up! Some hollowback attempts and just pretend that dancer shifted into a straight leg 😂I’ve actually never tried that until today 😅😂 . Splitting into Day 2 #ALOlovessplits . Day 2: seated split . One of my favorite ways to practice seated splits is on our carpet 👌🏼 I’m usually not a carpet fan butttt 🎉for splits on it! 😂 Ok so have you tried that super juicy switch from one side to the other through a middle split?!? Ummm yes. 👌🏼 And the bind with it?? Ummm yes again. 😂Be sure to really warm up your twists and shoulders for that one! And finally the lean in middle splits and the side stretch with a leg raise?!? Ummmm you guessed it…yes yes yes!! So many great ways to really work the strength through the stretch which is keyyyy! . Embrace the differences in daily practice 👀 Yep I’m totally guilty of expecting every practice to be “great” 😬😂I mean why not right?!? 😜 Yes we can find something “great” in every practice but some practices…I don’t know about you but I can feel really defeated 😩 (That goes with different workouts I do as well) Butttt if there’s anything I’ve learned through the yearssss of my daily practice is that even if it didn’t feel great or we didn’t think there was anything great about it…there’s alwaysss some great lesson for us to learn. Learning to be grateful no matter what is definitely the daily lesson I gravitate toward…grateful for the breath, the pause, the reconnecting…that’s always available 🙌🏻 . Todays practice inspired by @caromoreauxyoga with the firefly press to planche which I neverrrr do so that was fun 🎉and then some pincha wheel work which I’m totally guilty of not practicing often 😬😂I can do a wheel a day butttt the forearm wheel yeah not a favorite 😬and jumping in on #yogifeaturefriday with @flows_heal another pose I rarely practice 😂but I do love it! . Crow to handstand…Sharing some things that might help…but pls leave your tips in the comments as well and tag friends who are on this journey with you!🤗 . Inspired by @pihiglesi to work on this today and see what I could share that might help others…sooo let’s see 👀 . Alrighty…crow push-ups…so key (for me at least) in feeling the push that is needed to support our crow buttt don’t stop at the push…once you get your arms straight or straighter add on the deep core lift and see if you can get your knees to be lighter on your arms 😏 . Hand positioning…when working it it might help if you turn your hands out just a bit to allow for the back body opening and strength to be able to work to its best ability 😏 . Work on going into crow from downdog and malasana. Downdog for the control and malasana for the hip opening that’s needed to lift off . Negatives…from handstand but also from flying crow to crow to flying crow…this will help your body build that endurance through the weight shifts . Don’t be afraid to use momentum from malasana to just just a feel for the press so think more like a tuck press rather than crow at first 👌🏼Try adding the toe tap from crow to help lift the hips then do a straddle press from there…technically not a crow press but the press work will help 👌🏼 . Trust yourself…or put a pillow in from of you 😂…so that you can allow yourself to lean into the hands enough to get the hips higher and higher…once you feel them high really draw those deep core muscles in and up and kinda feel the cat/cow action through the upper back activate as you pressssss through the hands and find lift off!! It’s called a practice for a reason so if you thing isn’t working for your body practice it another way and embrace wherever you are 🙌🏻 . I was thinking hmmm... . All the chair things today thanks to #levelupyourasana with @innerdiamondyoga @whitneydavisyoga @natashaswinter @erika_yoga_and_unicorns @erikafischeryoga @bethanysmithyoga wooo loving all these variations ladies! And tested out that #flyingpigeonpress which again I haven’t practiced in a hotttt minute since 🤰🏼😂 Buttt 😏 it wanted to flyyyy so 💃🏼I let it...because you know it’s that “easy” 😜😂 Something that helps with this press (for me at least) is the set up in flying pigeon-really wrapping the triceps back, opening up and firing up the muscles of the upper back and arms to start, having my hips open buttt also super active as the bent leg kinda pushes against the arms as I lengthen the flying leg and fire up that back body. When I go to press I try to get and keep my hips as high as possible (that’s where the open but active strong hips comes into play 👌🏼) then I give those deep abdominal muscles a “hello let’s go to work 💃🏼) as I draw up and in even more and really pushhhh the ground away using my triceps like 😏to keep presssing upppp as that flying leg glutes and back leg muscles fire and help lift as well as the bent leg pushing off the arms and squeezing through the inner thighs to lift up as well 👌🏼 If this is a press you are working on try it going into headstand (it’s much easier) butttt imagine everything firing up and really working to get into it 👌🏼That will help as you work the press to handstand...always think of ways to break something down to build it back up! . Stalder press handstand drills! I’ve seen some videos that I didn’t think were particularly helpful for stalders, so I wanted to make one with the drills that helped me most. Most of these assume you can already do a regular press. The first slide is the full skill. 2nd: weighted pancakes. Keep your back as straight as possible as you fold forward. Lead with your elbows. 3rd: pike slide to straddle L. Start in plank, slide up to a pike, then press down to a straddle L. 4th: press walks, but to straddle L. Lean forward until feet lift off, but land in straddle L. 5th. Straddle L-sit hold. Try to lift the hips a little as you hold. As if you were trying to do the stalder. 6th. Tuck planche to straddle L. From handstand tuck down to tuck planche, hold for a second, then land, with control, in straddle L. 7th: tuck planche and back up. This is essentially what your shoulders need to be strong enough to do. We just took away the straddle/compression element. 8th. Slow AF negative: a negative press going as sloooow as you can, especially in the bottom hard spot. Push as tall an compress as small as possible the whole time. Hope these help!
