I always say that I need to create more OCs. I’ve also never participated in MerMay before. So I used MerMay as an excuse to create a mermaid OC! Meet Verda, the Jade mermaid. I wanted to post her on Sunday since jade was the prompt for that day but decided not to rush it too much. Watercolours and impatience don’t mix! I learned that the hard way and had to edit the piece digitally. Anyway, I decided to make Verda a cute monster girl, to create a more animalistic but still humanoid version of a mermaid. After looking for green fish species online, I used the Green Tiger Barb as inspiration - and included one of them in the piece, too. I like to think that Verda is the more mischievous type and likes to tease her little fish friend when she isn’t marvelling at giant gem stones.
