VOICES The theme of the animated film for the month of May is #democracy and the #rule of #law. This is one of the priorities of #EU2024BE and is also a nod to the upcoming #European and #Belgian #elections. The title of the #animation film is a reference to the # ‘Voices’ exhibition in the #European #Parliament. In the animation film, the Greek temple in Willy Peeters’ artwork “Freedom and law” symbolises official bodies, such as the @europeanparliament or one of the Belgian #parliaments. There, #parlemantarians, the #MP’s, fiercely #debate #legislative proposals, such as this one from the @europeancommission. If they come to an #agreement, they sign the law. If the @eucouncil does the same, the #proposal is accepted. The #signature in the video symbolises the #resolutions signed during @eu2024be. The #institution and the world are in flux, with the upcoming elections. At European level, #citizens go to the #polls every six years. That is when they decide who will sit in Parliament, and thus also which direction the EU will take. The artwork Composition trouvée, a voting booth by @guillaumebijl, symbolises this great #democratic #process. The movement of the booth and the temple signify the #changed #world and the search for a new #balance. Following monthly tradition, the film will be shown on the large LED screen in the lobby of the Justus Lipsius building. For the occasion of the month of May, the film will also be shown on a screen in the European Parliament at the # ‘Voices’ exhibition in the #Spinelli building as well as on the screens of the entrance of the headquarters of the @BelgiumMFA in #Brussels. Throughout the month, we will highlight further artworks from Voices in the European Parliament exhibition. We will also inform about relevant activities, including Slam poetry for democracy on 30 May, and the voices of 2 Belgian writers on 2 and 7 July in the Citizens’ Garden. Stay tuned!
