As ALWAYS…. TeamBK pulled together like the awesome group of people they are and made it happen… Thank you so much for those that came early to help - those that came later to help - those that simply showed patience with the situation and those that stayed behind to help Special thanks to Jun who came down early out of the blue to help unpack the new mats - to our instructor team who helped finish the job… to David for spending over 2 hours while the classes we’re actually running, still cutting and fitting all the edges. And thanks to everyone who stayed behind to help figure out the best way of putting them all in their storage cupboards. This is definitely one of those moments, we will remember as a turning point. I’ve needed new mats for so many years and we finally made it happen. it felt a bit strange at first, but I’m sure it will feel very natural soon enough. Our Adult mat was very busy again today with some good strong warm-ups great pad drills and excellent break falls Our 1st degree blackbelt, Yusif took the group through both first and second Katar. We then moved onto the technical applications which were punch block hips row, and left right combination punched a fence and fro set. Our intermediate sweat on the overhead bottle attack of the step in Barging take down, with the ultimate finishes of knee pain – knee brake, or ankle break. Great work all round as usual and I love the fact that this group are not afraid to ask questions to help find tune their skills and have a better understanding of the system. They are learning. Very well done to Jun who received a her first tag on her 6th Kyu belt and also to Dean who has followed up his advancement from the foundation, Section into the intermediate section with his first progression tag on his 5th kyu blue belt, these guys are blowing us away. Another excellent Sunday Class Great work by the JSD juniors who All worked extremely hard on their warm-ups and physical activities. Their pad drills were strong, and their break falls were very well executed. the technical application today was Class 17 – front tackle. We had a brief chat about how to confront a bully both inside and outside of school, and how to first • talk to the bully to tell them that you don’t like what they’re doing, next stage is to • tell a parent or teacher, and the third stage when all else fails is to • tackle them, using a distractionary front palm and then a simple double leg take down to put the bully gently on their back to allow your escape or to show them that you have the ability to match them physically if needed. The additional move is if you find the first move ineffective the back leg comes round trip the bully and then they go down. Excellent work around. Well done everyone very well done to Abigail who has received her third progression tag on her green/white belt. Good work young lady . That’s all I can say about todays Sunday morning class We SMASHED it as usual… Sensei David took the Tiny Ninja warrior clan (with the help of Sempai Sebastian ;)) through their paces and the technical class of stepping O’Soto against an attacker that is holding both your arms… Brilliant work by all On the adult mat Sempai Kancho took the team through the BK24 - the warm up and the break falls, and set up the groups for pad drills, choosing drill number 5 today Excellent kicking shown by all in this drill especially Michelle who continues to impress with her natural kicking skills 🙂 I put Nikita through his paces on the drill and was very impressed with his effort. The technical class was class 15 the frontal one arm attacks (2) that this time focused on the attackers arm being bent, this requires a different principal of movement than the straight arm attack , where we must control the inside, rather than the outside of the attacker. The Initial technique is the arm drag to rear control, and the additional kickdown and knee ride control options. Everyone works very well through this and I was very impressed. Very well done to Noah who received his third progression tag on his final advanced junior belt, Noah will be moving onto the adult syllabus at his next grading assessment, and we have decided that even at such a young age, he’s ability far exceeds this, and he will be entering into onto the adult programme at purple belt (4th Kyu) well done young man. You continue to amaze me with your overall attitude, maturity and ability. A huge congratulations goes to Nikita, who having completing 40 classes was successfully awarded his 8th Kyu – white/one blue stripe belt in Okinawan Kempo Karate Jutsu. Very well done young man. You should be amazingly proud of yourself. We love having you around and we look forward to taking you all the way to blackbelt Thank you to everyone today for being such a great group. Another very enjoyable adult class today, a good turnout with lots of effort on show. Well done to everyone on there physical warm-ups and pads drills, I enjoyed working with Nikita on his pad drill number 3 and throw in some extra defence moves testing for him along the way. Well done. The advanced adults were fine tuning various moves and working out the best way to perform the techniques that aliws the best flow for them. And the foundation adults were working on all variations of wrist grabs, both single, double and from pulling and striking attack positions. From Both same side and cross sided grips we also discussed how easy is to be fooled by techniques that look like they will be effective, but actually don’t work under pressure testing, and why techniques that look very simple are often very effective because of their natural body alignments. “Not all that glitters is gold” Very well done to Daniel, who has completed 40 classes on his 7th Kyu section and was awarded his fourth progression tag. Only 10 more until he will test for his 7th Kyu, white/2 blue stripe belt. Very well done young man.
