𝗠𝗲𝗼𝘄𝗺𝘆: On this Meowther’s Day, I wish for good health for the cattos. 🙏🏼 I’ve spent much of the late afternoon into the night, washing, cleaning, mopping because of Miyu’s UTI. Both cats were bathed in the afternoon, but she suddenly had diarrhoea in the late afternoon then the whole cycle of going in and out of the litter tray, peeing around the house, scooting on her bum and leaving smears on the floor started. At some point, I was literally following her from wherever she perched, guiding her back to the tray, and wiping away her pee droplets and poop smears. Consulted @fioloh and she suggested keeping Miyu in an enclosed area, so eventually, I decided to keep her in the kitchen, a space she liked to chill in pre-Hiro. She’s settled down for the night, and I hope Hiro doesn’t jump over the kitchen gate to keep his idol company. 𝗠𝗲𝗼𝘄𝗺𝘆: Yesterday’s breakfast that encapsulates the daily situation - Hiro stoning halfway through eating, and Miyu the vulture keeping a really close eye on his food. * * * * * * * I brought Miyu back to the vet’s yesterday afternoon, even though her condition seemed improved after one night. Dr Amelia extracted a urine sample directly from the side of Miyu’s body. It was very clear, with no signs of crystal, blood nor bacteria. They have sent it to an external lab for a culture and sensitivity test, and results will be out in a week. However, her urine concentration was at 1.011, lower than the normal 1.035. Dr Amelia said that Miyu either had a big drink of water before going to the clinic (she did not), or her kidney function is not good (I hope not!). Dr Amelia did an ultrasound and everything looked normal. She also did a physical test which turned out normal too. Miyu was so cute when she maintained a steady gentle purr as Dr Amelia tried to listen to her heartbeat.🥰 Miyu’s UTI might be due to not cleaning down there properly and bacteria grew. Since Miyu is on a cone, Dr Amelia advised me to help her clean her vulva area with gentle wet wipes. If everything turns out ok, Dr Amelia suggested that the condition might be Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC) in Cats. Stress might play a role. I shared how Miyu dislikes Hiro’s rough play so she asked me to provide more hiding spots, or use the Feliway diffuser. She prescribed another course of Cystophan (twice a day) and milk thistle liquid trial for Miyu’s liver for two weeks, since her ALT values were elevated. We will need to repeat the blood and urine tests at the next review. 𝗠𝗶𝘆𝘂: Once again, a few days after I finished my antibiotics, my UTI returned. It was rather abrupt last night at 10+ pm, that Meowmy noticed I started going in and out the litter tray multiple times, and scooting on my bum again! 😿 Meowmy came home this evening to bloody pee droplets and dried poop smears everywhere, including the sofa. While she was perched on a clean little stool eating her dinner, I went over to my hammock bed beside her, strained my butt and released a dollop of liquid poop. To drive the message home in case she didn’t get it, I flopped onto my back and showed her my swollen and red nether regions. I got a warm bum bath just before dinner time, which seemed to have eased off my itch a bit. 𝗠𝗲𝗼𝘄𝗺𝘆: Miyu has been on a collar for more than a year, and been on several types of meds, whether pilled, crushed or liquid. Hiro has been smelling so much meds for the past year that I wonder if it would make him easier to feed in future, if ever needed. He sometimes gives Miyu’s wet food a real good sniff, so closely that I have to watch carefully that he doesn’t sample it out of curiosity. 𝗠𝗶𝘆𝘂: When Meowmy went to bed last night, she thought something was off with the brownish stains she saw which she had thought were liquid poop stains. She felt that she had seen them before and suspected that my UTI made a comeback. So this morning during breakfast, I decided to make it clear to her! I peed two drops in the common toilet, then strained myself in the litter tray here, and she finally saw that the pee was pink. I also had soft stools, which I proceeded to smear all over the kitchen floor by scooting along.😿 Meowmy whisked me back to Dr Poon in the afternoon, who was concerned that my UTI returned days after I finished my course of antibiotics. She prescribed another type of antibiotics - Moxiclav syrup, along with prednisolone to reduce any inflammation, and another course of cystophan. She proposed to do an ultrasound to check for growths if my UTI persists after this course of meds. Dr Poon also ran blood tests for my liver, kidney and thyroid (cos Meowmy told her I’m always hungry). She was rather happy with the general results: - My SDMA, creatinine and BUN values were within normal range, though my creatinine was on the high side. - My GGT was 0, meaning my liver function is very good. - My thyroid is normal (Does this mean no extra food for me? I’m now at 4.22kg, from 4.26kg on 8 Apr 🥹) However, she highlighted to Meowmy that my ALT level is high, at 339 U/L when the normal range is 12-130. Back home, Meowmy bathed me to get rid of the urine around my bum. Suspicious brownish liquid stains which dried on the floor, and obvious, non-suspicious poop streaks amidst litter scattered around the litter tray. Upon investigation, I found a fur ball in the hammock bed, and a dirty bum, thus, the suspects are… Fur ball -> Hiro Soft stools -> Miyu Hiro’s fur ball might have been a consequence of the bath he had 10 days ago. However, can Miyu’s soft stools be caused by the omega 3 fish oil that she started taking earlier this week? 𝗠𝗶𝘆𝘂: Monday evening is Meowmy’s mopping day so I stayed out of her way, but still found a comfy spot! * * * * * * This morning, I finally finished my meds for UTI. Then for dinner, Meowmy added Omega 3 fish oil into our wet food. Yucks! I didn’t really like it, but I slowly finished everything after a while. The difficulties of trying to feed two cats with different tummy timings 🫠 If I feed them at Miyu’s timing, Hiro would just leave most of it in his dish for hours, after the initial curious bites. The fragrance would also keep Miyu going back to his bowl to steal his food. 𝗠𝗶𝘆𝘂: Throwback to when I was at the vet’s. I had peed in my carrier and flicked my pee over Meowmy, the towel and the table, when Meowmy carried me out of the carrier. Dr Poon exchanged the wet towel for this bigger one and it was so comfortable 😽 * * * * * * This evening, Meowmy discovered that I was leaking pee as I walked. I didn’t seem to notice it till she noticed my bum area was wet, and asked me about it. Then I went to use the litter tray. She read on Google that incontinence is a symptom of UTI, and may require antibiotics, but I’ve already been taking them for 5 days. 𝗠𝗶𝘆𝘂: Meowmy brought me to see Dr Poon two days ago and we did an X-ray to confirm if I had bladder stones with my UTI. Fortunately, I don’t. But Dr Poon saw something else: The vertebrae in my spine are fusing. Dr Poon said this is surprising for somepawdy of my age (I’m about 7+ years old), and recommended that Meowmy consults a physio to learn exercises to help me so that I don’t become stiff before my time. She also said I might start walking side to side; Meowmy remembered that I have already been waddling since adoption but not knowing better, she has always found it to be a cute gait. She was so shocked to learn of an additional condition that I need to cope with. She consulted my Auntie @fioloh who advised doing home rehab instead of bringing me out, to reduce my stress. 𝗠𝗲𝗼𝘄𝗺𝘆: Snapped during last night’s dinner, where Hiro smelt unusual scents in Miyu’s wet food and watched her gobble up a dish mixed with medicines. Again. * * * * * * Miyu displayed signs of UTI on Sunday morning, and by night time, she was busily going in and out of the litter tray with little output, and trying to lick her stinky bum. I googled and read that it must be really itchy for her, so I tried helping her wipe the area with a wet tissue. The fact that she lay on her back and let me do it spoke volumes on how my actions relieved her somehow 🥲 Took her to see Dr Poon yesterday, and she peed quite a lot in the carrier while waiting! Dr Poon quickly syringed up a sample to send for testing, and confirmed that she’s suffering from UTI. Her white blood cell count was high (49/HPF), and there were traces of blood. 🥲 She was prescribed Cystophan and Felexin. Dr Poon also did an X-ray to confirm if she had bladder stones. The result was thankfully negative, BUT, something was discovered in the process. Both together When it comes to days for number 3, I’m hard pressed to find any media of both of them, cos apart from meal times and fighting, they’re seldom seen near to each other 😪 Even when I check in on them via the cam from the office, usually only one is in frame, for eg, Hiro in the condo bowl, or Miyu in the A-frame bed. The other would be out of frame somewhere else. 𝗠𝗲𝗼𝘄𝗺𝘆: Captured 3 days ago, waiting together in hopes of having dinner 3 hours earlier (suggestion rejected). The weather this week has been just SLIGHTLY better, less humid in my area. Hiro has regained a bit of appetite, though not fully. Instead of eating half portion or less, he now can eat one portion, as compared to his previous 1.5 cans’ worth. She said sometimes she’s ok with him but at other times, not. She doesn’t like him to be very rough, especially when he starts by pouncing. I totally get her because I have witnessed this plenty of times, even while typing this post! “He’s better when he’s calm”, she shared. I totally agree with this too! Unfortunately, I doubt the boy would calm down anytime soon, because he finds it funny to stalk and jump on her when she can’t see him clearly with her cone on. 🥴 Hiro shared an image with Charlene which made me burst out laughing. He showed her that sometimes when I walk about at home, he would think that I’m initiating a chasing game and he would dash off. But when he looks behind at me, I don’t continue the “game”. This actually happens frequently! I shared with Charlene that I’m usually walking out of the kitchen after doing other chores, and he would suddenly burst into a zoomie. But after a few metres, he would turn his head to look at me, while I gaze back puzzled. 𝗠𝗶𝘆𝘂: Hello furriends, here’s a reminder of how I look without a cone on 🥲 Two nights ago, Auntie @charlenechua_ac told Meowmy that she could feel my itch moving from part to part of my body; when she could feel it, it was quite intense. Meowmy told her that I’m currently on antihistamines (again), and she sympathised with me. “If it’s this itchy while being on antihistamines, it must be really bad normally.” 😿 I told Meowmy that I do feel a bit better after baths, so I got one yesterday afternoon (and then went to lie down in this box after blow drying). 𝗠𝗲𝗼𝘄𝗺𝘆: What to do when everypawdy wants your attention? 😰 Because of Miyu’s persistent hot spot, I’ve had to pay a lot of attention to her in the past year, ensuring that she doesn’t lick there when she grooms after meals, brushing her fur often to keep her less warm during hot weather, soothing her so that she flops onto her back and exposes her belly for cleansing, pilling her etc. Hiro watches this fuss from a distance, and usually only comes to ask for affection or to play when Miyu is asleep or somewhere else. If I’m able to (eg, not washing soupy dishes), I’d indulge him. Somehow, Miyu seems to have this antenna that her Meowmy and That Boy are up to no good without her, and would come to wherever we may be to insert herself in between us for some attention too. 𝗠𝗶𝘆𝘂: Meowmy noticed that I was scratching my right ear a few days, so she had a look. To her surprise, it was pretty dirty even on the outer ear, even though I had full grooming just 10 days ago! Perhaps the groomer missed out cleaning my ears? Suddenly, today you both became so close as to use the litter tray at the same time? 🤣 Is it cos you sensed that you’re going into boarding soon? * * * * * * This morning, I brought Hiro to the vet’s as he’s been vomiting gastric juices since last Friday. Cue cat mama’s guilt as I had an event over the past weekend and was getting home really late. 🙁 When he ate, even though he was hungry, he could only finish about one can (his usual is 1.5 cans). Dr Amelia gave him an anti-vomiting injection which would last 24 hrs, and prescribed omeprazole, metoclopramide and mirtazapine cream. I also got her to look at the feline acne on his nose, and she advised to continue cleansing it. 𝗠𝗶𝘆𝘂: I’m getting the hang of being pilled. Today’s pilling was the fastest ever. I let Meowmy purrito me then tilted my head backwards for her to press my jaws open. She calmly positioned the pill popper inside my mouth and shot the pill in. 𝗠𝗲𝗼𝘄𝗺𝘆: This is a rare situation where the cats switched their feeding positions for breakfast about 3 weeks ago. Their bowls followed them. The colours are an easy indication of which goes to which cat, especially with different supplements. In the past week, apart from adding liver support supplements to Miyu’s food, I’ve also had to add Cefalexin (an antibiotic) to Hiro’s food. Which brings me to my genuine question: are vet clinic receptionists trained nurses? I came home to dried poop streaks on the floor on Sunday night. A check of bums revealed that Hiro was the cause, and it recurred daily. He was still doing nightly zoomies and eating his usual food. The only reason was possibly the antibiotics he’s on, so I called the clinic on Wed to explain what happened and ask for advice. Staff A: It cannot be the antibiotics; that wouldn’t cause diarrhoea for so many days. And it can’t be the Drontal also; if he had diarrhoea, it would just be on Sat night. Better to fix an appointment to see the vet. Maybe he ate something wrong. If there’s vomiting, you can come in without an appointment. Just walk in. So I low key panicked and fixed an appointment for tomorrow morning. Hiro’s daily poop streaks continued, so this afternoon, I called up the clinic again, got another staff and explained the situation again. I firmly stated my suspicions and asked if I could stop the antibiotics for a couple of days. Staff B: Hmm, it started after he started on the antibiotics? Everything else is normal? *Laughs over the zoomies* the course of antibiotics should be finished; if you stop it, the body might become resistant to it next time. Staff B then asked more questions and found out that I’ve been feeding probiotics just before Hiro ate his food. It was like a 💡 came on for him. He told me probiotics should be fed 2 hrs before or after the antibiotics, so I should do this and monitor. In the meantime, I cancelled tomorrow’s appointment. Two staff with two different answers 😵‍💫

𝗠𝗶𝘆𝘂: Today did not start off well. Meowmy accidentally left and locked me in the kitchen overnight, and she only discovered it when she woke up early this morning, and only That Boy greeted her at her door! 😿 Then, she brought me to the vet clinic and left me there by my lonesome self. My belly was shaven, as you can see. And in the afternoon, I underwent an ultrasound, recommended by Dr M, to try to pinpoint why my kidney and liver values are on the rise. They reported to Meowmy that I was very cooperative, when she had assumed that I wouldn’t be. 😾 To top things off, Meowmy had them do today’s pilling, so that we didn’t need to struggle through on our own. I got to eat my probiotics pearl and she released me, only to see the pill falling off the towel harmlessly. 😹 Then she bundled me up again and tried again. 𝗠𝗲𝗼𝘄𝗺𝘆: Post-showers yesterday. 🛁 I had to pill Miyu from yesterday. Her Novifit tablets for liver support are a 30-day course. 😥 I haven’t had to pill anypawdy for 3+ years, and Miyu’s head is wider than Yoshi’s was, so my hands really had difficulty trying to hold her jaw and pop the pill in. After trying this method unsuccessfully for some time, I got out the pill popper. She was in an open mouthed struggle when I shot it in. Both of us were surprised when it worked and she stared 👀 at me before licking her lips. Just to confirm, I quickly stroked her throat and puffed onto her nose for good luck. And she licked her lips again. 😮‍💨 Tonight, the pill popper worked again after some struggle. She was rather quiet and I think she was just giving me face. 𝗠𝗶𝘆𝘂: Meowmy made me go for a review this morning with Dr M 😾 Dr M said my wound looks healed, but he still felt that my skin looked a bit reddish. So I’m to be on the cone for another week, then Meowmy can monitor me when I groom, to see if my skin breaks again. More importantly, my blood test showed that my liver and kidney values have increased from a month ago, even after meds. My liver is suspected to be inflamed, which could be due to infection or toxicity. I currently don’t display symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, weight loss, excessive eating or drinking.
