Busy busy. Getting ready for a regional tour AND the release of my new single, Keep on Going. Keep On Going is the first single release from my forthcoming album. It is essentially a song about not giving up, not giving into your demons or vices or the voices in year head. For me in particular it was about quitting the beers and focussing on my love of music and not listening to my inner critic. G’day!! For those of you that are new here I thought it was time to reintroduce myself!!! I’m Loki Hines (pronounced Lachy). I’m a singer songwriter-guitarist. I’ve been playing guitar longer than I could walk and I’ve been working in the industry for nearly the same amount of time. My style is a mixed bag of Americana, alt-country, infused with a bit of blues, jazz, funk and rock. I’m heavily influenced by artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayer, Bob Dylan, the Three Kings (BB, Albert and Freddy King), U2, the Brothers Landreth, Jason Isbell and Colter Wall. I am at home performing, a bit of a show pony with my guitar in hand and can put on one hell of a one man show...but I love nothing more than jamming with a ripping band! Some of you may not know I’ve been a sober man for coming into a year now. I used to be a bit of a rat bag, your typical suffering musician type, but I’m a family man these days and 110% focussed on my craft - alc free. If you’re heading to a show expect to see my kids running around causing a ruckus, almost out shining their dad. I’ve been in the Southern Highlands for two years now and am blessed to be a part of this supportive music community. I love to give back where I can. I released my first EP, Wildfire in 2023 which I co-produced with @dingomusicproductions and @andrewbanovich at @therabbitholerecordingstudio. While I was there I was lucky enough to work with artists such as @kaseychambersmusic @chambersbill1950 and Jeff McCormack. Wildfire has been well-received thus far, with the singles “Running out of time” and “Mona” receiving high rotation airplay regionally and overseas. Recently I performed at the historic Tamworth Town Hall opening for Kasey Chambers at the @tcmf_official to a sell-out crowd. Since then it’s been all guns blazing with my new single, Keep On Going due for release June 3rd. I’ve got a regional tour locked in to celebrate one year since the release of Wildfire. Week 21, May 2024 It's been a week of collaboration this week. I've had friends in the studio, @amberkennymusic and @ellemaymusic. I've been talking to my friend @stevenfosterphotography about design and branding for my side project @trigg_station_studios (give it a follow if you don't already). Weekly Round Up Week 18 + 19 April/May A huge couple of weeks on the road for me. On the 28th last month I was keeping everyone warm and cosy by the fire at the Wang for another edition of Sunday Sounds. Coming into May I was double parked with back to back gigs on Saturday the 4th, where I played for all the lovely folk of Tahmor supporting local tattoo artist @jayboytattoo and his tribe at @tahmoortattoostudio. After that I headed out to support the boys out at a private function in Taralga, thanks to Beau from @firstchoiceearthworks for hooking me up with that one and thanks to Big Daz and the boys for keeping me well fed and warm by the fire!!! And on Sunday I headed back to the @burrawangvillagehotel to hang with the family and show some local support to artists @ellemaymusic and @mitchinthemountains, where I may have taken a beaten up guitar and had a sneaky jam…thanks legends. I’ve been a little quiet on the socials, my darling daughter turned 2 somewhere in the mix and you may have noticed we are working on a new creative space that we want to open up to the public real soon. I’ll be back in Taralga this weekend at @theargyleinn on Saturday 11th, from 5pm. And the Wang again (!!!) on Sunday the 12th for all the mothers on Mother’s Day, 1-4pm!!! Week 17, April 2024 It's been a hot minute. The last "weekly run down" that I posted was way back in Week 13. As I've shared sporadically since then, I've spent the last month packing up my little family and moving house. It's been a slog, but it feels like we are getting some sort of normal back now. In the meantime, I've played some great gigs at some awesome new venues such as @the.social.ulladulla, which was a cracker of a show!!! I played the @mittagonghotel recently for their new boozey brunch offer, which was a whole lot of fun. I've met some legends such as @jayboytattoo, who has booked me in for some really cool shows in collaboration with the @tahmoortattoostudio. I played a Robbo Pub gig with my band, featuring local legends @benmalonemusic and @swilson_music!!! It got loud. I've been popping into the studio at @highlandfm107.1 to have a chat with Adam and @stankorytnyj about all things music in the Highlands recently. And of course, who can forget the April Edition of the @robertson_pub open mic, where we had the incredible @jocaseley as our special guest for the night. Ron and the boys from the J & B Troubadours were our guest artists for the night with a special appearance from @amberkennymusic. The boys were followed later in the night by the incredible fiddle duo, Teho. Who were our secret guest for the night, joining us for their last show on their Australian tour. And we were so lucky to have @stevenfosterphotography capture it all on film. I said it on the night and I’ll say it again, I really don’t know how we’ll top that one, but we’ll give it a red hot go next month. As far as gigs went this week I found myself down in beautiful Nelligen at the @steampacket_nelligen on Friday night. Beer garden was packed!!! A fun night was had. Last night Mel and I let our hair down for a little private shindig down at @jamberoomountainfarm. Thanks for the invite guys!!! And today, Sunday afternoon, I played my first @dormiehouse gig. This show was right up there as one of my recent favourites. It was an intimate gig on the deck, perfect weather with a brilliant audience. 100 percent would recommend!! Gigs like that really make you feel appreciated as a muso. It’s Tuesday and I am only getting to my weekly wrap-up for last week now!! Whoops! So we are still in March, Week 12 of 2024. I started doing these weekly run-downs in the first week of Jan. It’s been the brain child of my partner Mel, and has been something I’ve grown to love doing as it’s keeping me accountable each week to assess where I’m at and to remind myself of all the things I’ve actually been up to. Anyway, busy week at home, kids party’s to get to, sports etc. Our little rental is going on the market, sad face. So it’s been a full on week for us. Work wise I was called up to fill in for a private gig this weekend, with a whole stack of new songs I had to learn. I’ve been working closely with a company called @oberonlane who have been booking me in for weddings. It’s funny how many weddings Ive actually been asked to play in the past so it’s good to be working with @oberonlane who can finally sort that side of things out for me. Go check them out if you’re getting married or know someone who is. Lots of work getting ready for the open mic which was last night. I went into @highlandfm107.1 for a chat with station manager and all-round legend Adam Stokeld on Friday. It was a lot of fun and I’ll be doing that on a regular basis now so keep your eyes peeled for when I’m in the station next. I had promo shots come back from @stevenfosterphotography which you may have seen me using lately. Deciding which ones to use for my upcoming single release. And gig wise I had a fun little Sunday sesh down at @resinbrewing where I met lots of new faces and scored some new followers. Last night was the open mic and it was just a classic night full of good music and friends. I’ll do another post about that later tonight. It's that time of the week already. My weekly wrap up for March, 2024 Week 11 We've been juggling a household of little sick people this week with booking festivals and workshops and what have you. Probably a few too many business calls to my man @stuartcoupe (sorry 'bout that mate). Stuart is such a huge support to me and many emerging artists in the biz. My voice of reason. Appreciate you and everything you do my friend. Spent a bit of time in the studio messing around with some new covers and made some reels. If you haven't seen it yet go check out my version of Scar by @missyhigginsmusic. Scar turns 20 this year and The Sound of White is an iconic Australian album (I can't believe it's been 20 years!!). The cover was a lot of fun to produce. Besides all of that I had a HUGE weekend of gigs. Played the three B's - Bundanoon, Bowral and Burrawang. I was double-parked on Saturday playing two gigs in a row, testing the stamina. Always have the best time playing around the Southern Highlands. The @bowralbowls gig was for the @highlandfm107.1 Home-Grown Concert and was a sell out!!! Highland FM are a huge support for live local music and emerging artists in the region and have been a massive support for me this year. Thanks guys!!! And to wrap up I've just gotten home after a photo shoot with Mr @stevenfosterphotography in and around my little home town for an upcoming single release. Real time: It's no secret I struggle using social media as a platform to get my music out there to y'all. It's time consuming and it really kills the creative process, for me anyway. To then only get a handful of people viewing my reels, and most people aren't even watching them for longer than the first ten seconds. It can be super disheartening most of the time. Back in the day an older version of myself would have thrown it all in and given up by now...but here I am, about to sit down in the studio and record another reel that only a handful of my existing followers will see amongst a sea of talented artists busting their guts to be noticed. My question to you is this - do you want to see reels containing more of my originals??? Or is social media like the old fella sitting at the back of the bar who only wants to hear what he knows?? The week that was... Feb/March 2024 Week 10 I took a break from gigging last week following a huge week of gigging the week prior. Some much needed time with the kiddies and my dogs. We started off the week with a day trip down to Berry for ice creams and that epic park they have down there, iykyk. I spent a little time on the blower to some regional venues. Keep your eyes peeled for an EP tour. I mean it's been almost a year since I released Wildfire out into the world, so why not hey? I also spent the week organising some local workshops and talking to sponsors who want to get behind the open-mic. I released my first EP Wildfire last year. It hasn't quite been a year yet but it's still doing the rounds on ABC Country, Australian Country Radio and other broadcasters around Australia. It got a spin on Double J last year and has received airplay in Ireland and Canada. The album is named after my daughter, Fleur Wildfire. Her middle name derived from a mixture of sorts. It started as Wilde after the name of one of our favourite localities around Robertson, it evolved into Wildflower but we settled on Wildfire after the name of a John Mayer song from the album Paradise Valley which Mel and I listened to on repeat when we started dating. Co-produced by Brandon Dodd, Andrew Banovich and myself at the @therabbitholerecordingstudio. Featuring legends such as Jeff McCormack on bass and Bill Chambers on slide. 2024, Week 9, End of Feb My weekly wrap ups are getting later and later haha but here's what I got up to last week... Started off the week with our incredibly successful Robbo Pub open-mic. Thanks to Holly and Louis at the @robertson_pub and the guys at @highlandfm_107.1 for supporting that one. We'll be back in a month from now to do that all again. I've been working with Alex of @highlifesouthernhighlands for a little piece they are putting together on the country music scene in the Southern Highlands. So keep an eye out for that one. On Wednesday I headed out to the big smoke to play the @themidnightspecial with @angie.who and @cjstrangermusic opening the night. Thanks to my Sydney chums for coming out to that one and cheers to all the new folk I got to meet on the night. Legends. Friday night I was down in the Gong with @glenn.whitehall.music playing some tunes for @fivebarrelbrewing. Saturday night was a cracker down at the @burrawangvillagehotel. Can't wait to do more nights there as it was shaping up to be a wild night. I've always wanted to make music my life. If you're an artist, especially with kids, you know this is not an easy feat. However lately I have met a number of people in the same position as myself doing just that. So this year I set out with the intention to give it my all. The hustle has been real but I genuinely feel like for the first time since I started playing gigs at 14 I am finally on my way to becoming a "professional" artist. Looking back over the weekly highlights I've been doing I realise I haven't stopped that same momentum that I started the year with. I still haven't touched a drop of alcohol and somehow we've made it to now, working our butts off, but making it happen. And I'm a bit proud of that.
