✨ARTIST FEATURE✨ Today we are featuring artist, Mary Proctor, who has art works in our current exhibit, Soulful Feelin’: A Folk Art Celebration! Born in Jefferson County, Florida in 1960, Mary Proctor can pinpoint the exact moment & reason why she began to paint. In 1994, a fire took the lives of her grandmother, aunt, and uncle. Deep depressed by her great loss, Proctor found comfort in the Christian faith and in 1995, Proctor had a vision that told her to get a door and paint. Proctor uses doors as passageways to freedom, peace, and comfort, and instills her paintings with passages from scripture and glittering angles. She uses a myriad of found materials - button, stickers, broken pieces of glass, mirrors, plates - to complete her compositions. Savory smells wafted through the air as festival visitors explored the 24th annual Chain of Parks Art Festival! With an emphasis on providing a wide array of wholesome and delicious food for every dietary preference, attendees were able to choose from a variety of local and regional food and beverage vendors. From vegan samosas by Indian Kitchen to decadent fried Oreos by Love Gurlies, there was something to satisfy every tastebud! 🤩Exciting news! Celebrated sculptor, Benjamin Peterson, has announced the donation of his exquisite sculpture “Rock My World” to LeMoyne Arts! Peterson, acclaimed for his innovative use of recycled metals, glass, and natural stones in his work, is gifting this piece as part of the expanded sculpture gardens at LeMoyne Arts. The announcement was made in anticipation of his return to the Chain of Parks Art Festival, a platform that marked his debut in 2018 and catapulted him into the hearts of Tallahassee art collectors. His unique artistic vision, which combines environmental consciousness with aesthetic beauty, has established him as a beloved figure among the local art community. “I am thrilled to dedicate ‘Rock My World’ to the Tallahassee community. I hope this sculpture will not only enhance the beauty of the LeMoyne Arts Garden but also inspire a deeper appreciation for the environment and our connection to it,” stated Peterson.
