DnD Chibi series 2 7/18 . The character's player is an artist, and, frankly, much more skilled than me (This isn't me being self-deprecating, I'm pretty confident in my ability to manage to draw what I want to, but seriously, he's incredibly skilled). I'd have already chosen to do chibis to keep the project sensible, but I'm also really not sure what I could draw for him in a realistic style that he couldn't execute better himself. I very much mean it as a compliment that he's so skilled that I decided to go with a simplistic style! . I don't think I've ever seen a worse case of a DM ruining a character with bad pacing than this guy. He has such a cool concept, can't overstress that. I love the idea of literally carrying a character's past with them, the character's past was cool, and the current execution was cool. It'd have been so easy to slip into edgy with the concept; I think the more light-hearted aesthetic helped a lot to avoid that. . This was one of two characters the DM tried to deliver any backstory for in that campaign, and I've never seen a case of a DM so obviously wanting to get the links to a character they don't like over and done with in any other campaign. If it was delivered properly, a good DM could have made an entire arc carefully delivering the details in a really interesting way; and yes, I absolutely mean that as a compliment to the player, too. His character deserved so much better. I think a lot of DMs could stand to get a lot of mileage in plot ideas by just looking over character backstories and coming up with interesting ways to explore them for the other characters. . On a related note, I love seeing someone who fully embraced the idea of reflavouring. Reflavouring is such an easy way to make your TTRPG characters more diverse, and they don't have to be complicated.
