The second-stage Izdelie-30, or AL-51F1, engine is production-ready following its tests, state-owned TASS revealed citing two sources. Its reported afterburner thrust of 18,000 kilograms (39,683 pounds) will let it supercruise over Mach 2 without activating fuel-guzzling afterburners which increase heat signatures. Is there a reason why an updated version of this plane has not been developed? ----------------------------------------------- 🧑✈️: America is already working on a replacement for the F-22, and that working title is, NGAD (Next Generation Air Dominance). A prototype/concept model has already flown. Thing is, a modern 4th gen fighter takes 20yrs, minimum, to develop and field. More for a 6th gen like the NGAD. Why hasn’t the US done this sooner? Well, the F-22 was intended as a replacement for the F-15. But, it needed a replacement for the F-16 as well, and that’s the F-35. That’s meant the US has been focused on developing and fielding the F-35 in much larger numbers than the F-22. If you consider that the F-35 was really three airplanes in one: one for the USAF, USN, and USMC, well that’s a lot of bandwidth of attention to fully place in the field. That’s why we don’t have a replacement for the F-22 yet. We’ve been busy. It’s coming down the pike, though. It takes time for these things to happen, but the foundation has already been laid. Have you ever noticed that most of the jets are white or light in colour? Turns out, there are solid reasons behind that. 1) Easy Damage Detection Before takeoff, Pilots always complete a walk around and search for cracks, dents or damage on the body of the aircraft. No other paint works better than white as almost every damage or leakage is easy visible which can be dealt with swiftly. 2) Heat Repellent As we all know that dark colours absorb most of the sunlight. Painting aircrafts in dark colours will heat it’s body up. Thus, painting aeroplanes white reduces the heating and minimises the chance of the damage caused by the same. 3) Weight and Cost Dark paints are heavier than light paints. Several layers of paints are sprayed which means the weight increases. The heavier the aeroplane the more fuel it burns. And higher fuel consumption means less profit for the airlines. If this can be solved just by painting the aeroplane white, then it’s worth it. 4) Low bird strikes White exterior enhances aircraft visibility. Aeroplanes can be easily spotted and avoided by birds as white paint increases the contrast between aircraft and the background. 5) It doesn’t Fade When aeroplanes fly at high altitudes, they are exposed to various atmospheric conditions, which results in the fading of the colour. This increases the number of paint jobs required to keep it in well condition. On the other hand, white colour doesn’t appear to fade away easily. Tag your friends to let them know the same.
