There is something so rewarding when you stop and look back at what was just achieved. To open Eighty8interiordesigns first shop was a quick 7 day flip. It took a lot of pre organisation to run smoothly when the keys were given, an extra pair of hands each day to achieve little ticks off the to do list, long hours and a lot of self motivation, but the result....well all I can say is I love my little shop! Im excited at the possibilities ahead, I'm glad I took the leap of faith and look forward to what's ahead. The opening day was a huge success. Thank you to those who were able to make it. Lots of beautiful clients past and present came to see the shop, lots of family and friends, as well as I got to meet some beautiful locals, some of those who watched the transformation from day one. It has taken me 13years of hard work, constant mind battles, trying different things, growing my knowledge and skill set to be where I am today and when I found this quote a smile came to my face as I had this thing that I'd compare myself to other designers, I couldn't work out what they were doing and why it worked for them and not me.....it was because ....the reason? .....I was trying to fit a mould and not be authentically me. I used to stress about the money, in fact some does I still do, especially in the world we live in today where living costs are hurting many, we work a 9-5 to pay the bills, we chase the money and whilst doing so we lose the passion. I have always worked somewhere that I was passionate about, that gave me joy and once the time had come where that "job" no longer gave me passion I knew I'd learnt what I needed to and it was time to move on. Now working for my self everyday doesn't feel like a job, I'm not thinking as much about the money more about how Lucky I am to have stayed focused, chased my dream and made it a reality and when I'm working for others and designing I'm so passionate I forget I'm actually working! From concept to reality! You don't always have to start from scratch if you have some great main pieces you can add to them to create your ideal room aesthetics. Here, our beautiful clients had the lounge, entertainment unit, and her family artworks. She had cushions and a throw too, but the cushions weren't adding anything to the room. Instead, they were blending with the couch, which was not ideal. They had moved from 2 different homes into a beautiful acreage queenslander, so the furniture and rooms needed scaling and finishing off. Here, we worked our magic by adding in a coffee table, new cushions, decor, and a statement rug. Entries set the tone for your home, but at the same time, it is so important to reflect what you love. When styling think of timeless colours, a mixture of personal curiosities and those that compliment them. For this entry, we were inspired by the location of our clients home in the countryside and their love for the 12 horses on their property. Our challenge was working with brickwalls, a baby blue feature wall, and wood floors. To break up the brown from the wood and brick, black is the perfect visual weight and complimentary contrast, we could then blend the furniture piece seamlessly as it too featured a touch of wood. To compliment the soft blue wall, a set of vintage floral lamps in a hue of the same tone, teamed with an iron horse sculpture, 2 books with hints of white and black and to finish, our clients had this amazing time capsule picture of their family which was perfect! We had the pleasure at the beginning of this year to install a gorgeous country home in boyland. The trick was they'd moved from 2 different apartments so their furniture wasn't to scale for the size of the new home. The other challenge, heavy brown brick walls and light brown wood flooring. So we had to add more furniture but add elements such as the black accents to break up all the brown. With a few new additions in furniture, lighting, decor and soft furnishings, we made it into a home they loved. Featuring their dining room here, the design was inspired by their large black and white rug that we had to work with. They were horse owners, so we felt it only appropriate to add some horse art to this area as it simply popped off the deep brick walls and created a beautiful focal point for the room. Flash back to a beautiful apartment we did in St Lucia. One area the client really wanted to add colour was her study area. Before was just a desk in the room, this room had to be multi-purpose for guests to stay in, so we moved her sofa lounge in, ottoman, gave her a new desk and accessorised with cushions, plants, lamps and a new rug. What a difference the small tweaks can make. What we loved the most was that she had some meaningful artwork that had to stay in the room, so we worked with the art and took inspiration from the colours. We just adore how the talented team @thejoy.collective have revamped their studio and created this gorgeous space. The contrasts are striking between the stunning deep blue statement walls and their bright pink velvet lounge. Nook areas can be tricky as to what to use them for. Here, our client requested a reading nook/ a place to relax.We gave 2 options this one more formal than the other, however we chose swivel chairs for ease of movement, used a dual purpose ottoman that can also be used as a coffee table and an open style bookshelf to display their collection of curiosities. When working with small spaces, dual purpose and versatile furniture are the trick. If you have a wall, instead of closing it in with a solid bookcase, try and use an open one as it's less visually heavy. And we are at it again! A beautiful couple we recently met @brisbanehomeshow have locked in their design job. They have a beautiful 2 bed apartment in St Lucia, the style a mix of modern country/coastal with pops of colour in blues, greens, and mustards. He loves to cycle. She is a musician, they both love to travel and have moved from Sydney, and need to make this their forever home. First step of any design project is a mood board to ensure we are on the same mindset of colours and overall feel for the project. Reusing and giving purpose to what once was old is new again, is something we love to do here at Eighty8 Interior designs. How beautiful is this artwork from the talented @rosehewartson.art .....we just adore it and loved it so much we have suggested it in our latest concept to a client, as it had all their colours from an existing hallway runner the clients wanted to keep, as well as will work with their beautiful tan leather lounge too. Artwork is a great tool in design as it helps us pull colours from it to create a cohesive and eclectic design for clients, especially when working the old with new. This concept was designed to create a playful rumpus room for their 2 young girls. When I first started out as a designer, I was comparing myself to others. Why are they more successful than me? why do they get the jobs and I don't? Then when I developed my skills, gained more knowledge and experience in the industry as well as when I became a teacher to the younger generation coming through, I realised and told my students... "In order to be different you need to find out what makes you unique, inorder to stand out from the rest."
