The Clock Tower in Venice is an early Renaissance building on the north side of the Piazza San Marco, at the entrance to the Merceria. It comprises a tower, which contains the clock, and lower buildings on each side. It adjoins the eastern end of the Procuratie Vecchie. Both the tower and the clock date from the last decade of the 15th century, though the mechanism of the clock has subsequently been much altered. It was placed where the clock would be visible from the waters of the lagoon and give notice to everyone of the wealth and glory of Venice. The lower two floors of the tower make a monumental archway into the main street of the city, the Merceria, which linked the political and religious centre (the Piazza) with the commercial and financial centre (the Rialto).  #venice #italy #instavenice #instaitaly #igvenice #igitaly #igers #igersvenice #igersitaly #traveler #vacation #holiday #igdaily #instadaily #instagood #latepost #latergram #throwback #travel #venezia #instavenezia #igvenezia #igersvenezia #stmarkclocktower #torredellorologio

The Doge's Palace or Palazzo Ducale  is a palace built in Venetian Gothic style, and one of the main landmarks of the city of Venice in northern Italy. The palace was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the former Republic of Venice. It was built in 1340 and extended and modified in the following centuries. It became a museum in 1923. #venice #italy #instavenice #instaitaly #igvenice #igitaly #igers #igersvenice #igersitaly #traveler #vacation #holiday #igdaily #instadaily #instagood #latepost #latergram #throwback #travel #venezia #instavenezia #igvenezia #igersvenezia #dogepalace #palazzoducale

A bell was most likely first installed in the tower during the tenure of Doge Vitale II Michiel. However, documents that attest to the presence of a bell are traceable only from the thirteenth century. A deliberation of the Great Council, dated 8 July 1244, established that the bell to convene the council was to be rung in the evening if the council was to meet the following morning and in the early afternoon if the meeting was scheduled for the evening of the same day. There is a similar reference to the bell in the statute of the ironmongers' guild, dating to 1271. Over time, the number of bells varied. In 1489, there were at least six. Four were present in the sixteenth century until 1569 when a fifth was added. Beginning in 1678 the bell brought to Venice from Crete after the island was lost to the Ottoman Turks, called the Campanon da Candia, hung in the tower, but it fell to the floor of the belfry in 1722, and was not resuspended. After this time, five bells remained. #venice #italy #instavenice #instaitaly #igvenice #igitaly #igers #igersvenice #igersitaly #traveler #vacation #holiday #igdaily #instadaily #instagood #latepost #latergram #throwback #travel #venezia #instavenezia #igvenezia #igersvenezia #sanmarcocampanile #bell

St Mark's Campanile is the bell tower of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy. The current campanile is a reconstruction completed in 1912, the previous tower having collapsed in 1902. At 98.6 metres in height, it is the tallest structure in Venice and is colloquially termed "el paròn de casa" (the master of the house). It is one of the most recognizable symbols of the city. The campanile was initially intended as a watchtower to sight approaching ships and protect the entry to the city. It also served as a landmark to guide Venetian ships safely into harbour. Construction began in the early tenth century and continued sporadically over time as the tower was slowly raised in height. A belfry and a spire were first added in the twelfth century. In the fourteenth century the spire was gilded, making the tower visible to distant ships in the Adriatic. The campanile reached its full height in 1514 when the belfry and spire were completely rebuilt on the basis of an earlier Renaissance design by Giorgio Spavento. Historically, the bells served to regulate the civic and religious life of Venice, marking the beginning, pauses, and end of the work day; the convocation of government assemblies; and public executions. The belfry is topped by an attic with effigies of the Lion of St Mark and allegorical figures of Venice as Justice. The tower is capped by a pyramidal spire at the top of which there is a golden weather vane in the form of the archangel Gabriel. #venice #italy #instavenice #instaitaly #igvenice #igitaly #igers #igersvenice #igersitaly #traveler #vacation #holiday #igdaily #instadaily #instagood #latepost #latergram #throwback #travel #venezia #instavenezia #igvenezia #igersvenezia #sanmarcocampanile

--- eng --- Saturday, 18th May at 7:00 pm – Astianatte by G. Bononcini – We look forward to sharing with you some of the most beautiful arias from the opera Astianatte, which debuted at the Haymarket Theater in London in 1727. Giovanni Bononcini could not have imagined that this opera would garner most of its fame from a celebrated onstage fight during one of its performances: the long-standing rivalry between its two most famous stars, Faustina Bordoni (Ermione) and Francesca Cuzzoni (Andromaca) reached its peak on the stage, where the two began a fistfight, encouraged by their fans. --- ENG --- Tomorrow!!! 11th May at 7 pm – Paso a Paso… Deseos Mios !!! – Venid a sospirar! What do you say if this weekend we go all together to visit some enchanting musical and historical landscapes? Let’s embark on a voyage to explore the vocal and instrumental repertoire of this illustrious era, spanning from the late 15th century to the late 17th century. Our voyage commences with the echoes of early Renaissance melodies, resonating through the corridors of time. Guided by the delicate strains of viola da gambas, harp, lute, and the beautiful voice of the countertenor, we delve into the works of distinguished composers such as Antonio de Cabezon and Manuel Machado. Their compositions, rooted in the rich tapestry of the Iberian tradition, transport us to a realm of exquisite musical craftsmanship. As we sail further into the musical seas of the "Siglo de Oro," we encounter the intricate wonders of the figured bass. Melodies emerge as the guiding stars, leading our ensemble through a labyrinth of harmonies and rhythms. With each note, we unravel the complexities of this musical landscape, guided by the masterful compositions of Spanish masters. In this segment of our voyage, we witness the fusion of tradition and innovation, as famous melodies from popular culture intertwine with the sophisticated stylings of the Baroque era. Through the deft hands of our ensemble, traditional tunes are reimagined and reinterpreted to new forms of musical expression, showcasing the dynamic evolution of Iberian music during the Golden Age. Professors and students alike lend their talents to our ensemble, enriching our performance with their passion and expertise. Together, we will celebrate the enduring legacy of the "Siglo de Oro," a testament to the enduring power of music to transcend time and unite hearts across generations. @rositaippolito @tabuchi.hiroyuki @aurelio.ciprinai17 #venicemusicproject #Venezia #Venice #venezianity #livemusic #concertovenezia #baroque #baroquemusic #soprano #classicalmusic #instavenezia #igersvenezia #veneziagram #veneziacityitaly #ConcertoVenezia #patreoncreator #thegladyskriebledelmasfoundation #orchestra #scuolagrandedeicarmini

San Marco Basilica, church in Venice that was begun in its original form in 829 (consecrated in 832) as an ecclesiastical structure to house and honour the remains of St. Mark that had been brought from Alexandria. St. Mark thereupon replaced St. Theodore as the patron saint of Venice, and his attribute of a winged lion later became the official symbol of the Venetian Republic. San Marco Basilica, built beside the Palazzo Ducale, or Doges’ Palace, also served as the doge’s chapel. It did not become the cathedral church of Venice until 1807. #venice #italy #instavenice #instaitaly #igvenice #igitaly #igers #igersvenice #igersitaly #traveler #vacation #holiday #igdaily #instadaily #instagood #latepost #latergram #throwback #travel #venezia #instavenezia #igvenezia #igersvenezia #basilicasanmarco #stmarksbasilica

Piazza San Marco, often known in English as St Mark's Square, is the Venice’s main public square and contains its most famous buildings such as St Mark’s Basilica and the Doge's Palace.  It is 180 m long and 70 m wide, and is the only “piazza” in Venice, since the rest of the squares are called “piazzales” or “campos”. It was established during the ninth century, but adopted its current size and form in 1177, and was paved one hundred years later. The Piazza San Marco is one of the most beautiful in the world. Napoleon called it “the world’s most beautiful drawing room”. #venice #italy #instavenice #instaitaly #igvenice #igitaly #igers #igersvenice #igersitaly #traveler #vacation #holiday #igdaily #instadaily #instagood #latepost #latergram #throwback #travel #venezia #instavenezia #igvenezia #igersvenezia #piazzasanmarco #stmarkssquare

💛 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘢 𝘶𝘯 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘰 𝘪𝘯 𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘭𝘢 𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘭 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘰 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦 𝘦 𝘪𝘭 𝘗𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦 𝘥𝘪 𝘙𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘰, 𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘪 𝘦 𝘭𝘦 𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘦 l𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘯𝘦, 𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘭𝘪 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘪 𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪. #venezia #veneziagram #veneziaautentica #veneziaarte #veneziaquadrospettacolare #arte #quadrogondole #artevenezia #instavenice #instavenezia #veneziadavivere #veneziaunica #veneziainunoscatto #veneziainlove⛵❤️ #veneziainnamora #veneziaperimmagini #viaggiapervivere #viaggiaperarricchirti #travelpassion #travelphotography #travelblogger #travelgoals #ilovetotestforyou

Palazzo Rio Novo Angelo Scattolin, Cesare Pea, Luigi Vietti 1957-1960 Venezia (VE) The building was constructed in Rio Novo between 1957 and 1960 as the headquarters of SADE ( Società Adriatica Elettrica ), a private electricity supply company that was nationalized two years later. Planning for the project had already begun around 1950. So many architects worked on the drafts that it is no longer possible to assign authorship to the original idea. Angelo Scattolin submitted an initial design in 1952. However, this first draft was not approved because it exceeded the maximum height allowed by building regulations by 20 meters. Different versions of the drafts from this period depict a rationalistic structure in different sections. As a consequence of the tough approval process-this time not from Venice-another architect was included in the project. He was Luigi Vietti of Milan, already known before World War II for his rationalist architecture. He was working in Venice on a plan for an open-air theater and the expansion of the monastery on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore. He was actually responsible for the basic solution of the main facade despite the work being attributed to Cesare Pea. The architect envisioned an elevated elevation above the ground with an open texture. In order to achieve this floating effect, a sophisticated support system was developed. A network of beams is placed on the outer structure, but visible from the inside. The upper part of the main elevation features a gridded sequence of stone supports and floor-to-ceiling windows, making the building an unusual elegant example of rationalistic architecture.
