Real talk 👉🏼 I showed up at a networking meeting this morning looking like $&!/ In an effort to be on time, which I struggle with as someone with ADHD, I left the house with wet hair and no makeup. I managed to put on little bit of makeup at stop signs along the way, working with the dried out, crumbly mascara and using lipstick for eyeshadow, blush and lips. The scant amount of concealer under my eyes did nothing to camouflage my dark shadows, giving away my poor sleep habits. My dress was wrinkled, but I needed a one and done outfit to get out the door since I hadn’t done laundry and couldn’t put together a two piece outfit. I figured I could get away with the wrinkles since the dress is linen. My air-dried hair lay flat against my face in an unflattering way. I felt like a faded reflection of who I am. Not the first impression I wanted to make. Self-consciousness accompanied me for two hours as I smiled and shook hands with people I was meeting for the first time. I’m chalking up today as an opportunity for growth and grace and a chance to illustrate the correlation between time management and self expression. In the meantime, I’m working on techniques to help me avoid time blindness and ADHD paralysis in the mornings when I’m getting dressed so that I can express myself confidently and authentically. If you have an example of time or something else getting in the way of authentic self-expression, share it in the comments so we can learn from each other and encourage one another. #Simpleliving #simplify #declutteryourlife #homeeorganizer #homeorganizing #spiritualgrowthjourney #declutteryourhome #simplelifestyle #simplyhome #homeonpurpose #simplelivinglifestyle #proorganizer #timemanagementskills #adhdawareness #momswithadhd #adhdproblems

I was eating my yogurt bowl, my mind racing with ideas on what to call my new membership program, when I happened to look up.⤵️ I was struck by the view of soft white tulips with their fresh green leaves against the backdrop of the deep blue throw pillow. “Stunning,” I thought as if seeing this vignette for the first time. Something about that moment pressed pause on all the ideas occupying my mind and created space for peace. This “Peace. Be still.” moment reminded me: 1. I don’t have to figure everything out. 2. Beauty is all around me. 3. Practice gratitude for that beauty. So, on this Monday, I want to encourage you no matter what you’re trying to accomplish this week 🗓️ who and what you feel responsible for 🧑‍🧒‍🧒 and what you’re trying to figure out…💡 leave room in your heart and mind for peace and calm. 😌

“Be ruthless when decluttering.” It’s common advice. I actually used to give that advice to clients and readers, too, but I’ve changed my mind. Here’s why👇🏼 Decluttering is deep inner work that requires a lot of emotional energy. The process can leave you feeling uprooted and unsettled. With that in mind, it’s not a time to be ruthless. I feel like being ruthless doesn’t respect that process. Yes, be firm with your goals, remember your why, keep your vision in mind, but be patient and kind with yourself. What’s your opinion?

FEELING STUCK, TRAPPED, or HELD BACK? 👇🏼 I’m sitting in my car, having what I call a car picnic. (It’s usually a snack and drink followed by meditation and journaling.) During my meditation, I realized I was still wearing my seat belt. The car is parked. The engine off. I don’t need the seatbelt for protection. How often are the blocks and obstacles we face harnesses of the past: limiting beliefs or behaviors that once served us, but now hold us back? My husband gave the message at church yesterday. He ended his talk with the story of a Japanese man who hadn’t gotten the notice that the war was over. He dismissed fliers dropped in the jungle to tell him the war was over as propaganda. He stayed in that jungle continuing to fight a war that was over for over thirty years! I felt the moral of that story swirl in my belly, like a tap on the shoulder from God, telling me to stop living like I have to fight for my safety. That fight response is left over from various experiences from childhood and young adulthood, but it no longer serves me. Now that I know better, I will do better, using different healing modalities to help me drop my weapon and live in the freedom that is meant for me. I invite you to take some time today to reflect on your life and ask what emotional clutter is no longer serving you. If something comes to mind, practice grace. There’s no shame or judgment for what was. Your mind functioned exactly how it was created in order to get you through it. Now that you’ve made it to the other side, you can let those beliefs and behaviors go.

How’s your Monday going? I hope that whatever you have to do and wherever you need to be, that your Monday so far has been gentle and kind, easing you into the week. If it hasn’t, this is your invitation to take a deep breath, or a few. Step outside and soak up the sunshine. Stand barefoot on the grass. Anything that will calm your body and slow your mind. Just a few minutes can make a big difference. Then carry on knowing that Mondays do not have to be blue or manic. Days of the week aren’t meant to dictate our mood. You have more agency than that.
