MEET THE 2024 AAPI AF CAST: KIMEE BALMILERO Filipino American and Hawaii-born actor Kimee Balmilero is best known for her role as Medical Examiner Dr. Noelani Cunha on CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I. MEET THE 2024 AAPI AF: KAY KAANAPU Kay Kaanapu is a writer, improviser and comedian who’s been a finalist in fellowships for Nickelodeon, NHMC and NBC. Raised by coaches in Garlictown, USA, Kay quit sports because she was bad at them and fell in love with improv comedy. Now she writes/performs with her femme Asian troupe, Number One Son, and UCB’s Filipino AF/Asian AF. She also wrote for the 2016 CBS Diversity Showcase and her work has been showcased at the Del Close Marathon, San Francisco Sketchfest, and the Hawaii Comedy Festival. MEET 2024 AAPI AF CAST: SARAH CLASPELL Sarah is an actor/comedian/improv teacher living in Los Angeles. She has been featured on tv shows such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Jimmy Kimmel Live, and she teaches at WGIS and the Upright Citizens Brigade. Sarah performs regularly with improv teams Voltron, Cardinal Redbird, and The Bozos, variety show Asian AF, and various shows doing improv, sketch, and characters. She has performed at the San Francisco Sketchfest, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Das Improv Festival, and SoHo Rep Theater in New York. Additionally, she has trained with members of the Royal Shakespeare Company in London. MEET THE 2024 AAPI AF CAST: RYAN "OKI" OKINAKA Ryan “Oki” Naka was born and raised in Honolulu, HI and prefers to go by the name Oki, a nickname based on his last name(Okinaka). Oki has performed in numerous stage productions, as well as various television, web, and film roles. In his role as a playwright, his script, iHula was produced at KKT in 2016, by Windward Community College at Paliku Theater in 2021 and 2023, and is set to premiere this fall at Nānākuli High and Intermediate School Performing Arts Center . His second play Who You Again? was performed at KKT in 2022. He's performed improv comedy for nearly ten years and has been a member of Improvhi. He's also assisted in writing, performing, and producing Waikiki PD, a local police sketch comedy series. A natural on camera, the Pueo in our film is portrayed effortlessly by “Flower” the resident pueo of the Pana’ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens. Flower is 12 years old and arrived at the zoo as a rescue, and because of her broken wing she was unable to be released back in the wild. We were fortunate to be allowed into her enclosure to get some shots of her, and she put on a show for us with little direction.
