The latest installment of holding up my coworkers while I do some carspotting is this mossy street-parked '89 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Touring Sedan! I still see this gen of Eighty-Eight/Ninety-Eight around a fair bit, but the Touring Sedan really is quite the rarity. I only remember seeing one other, and it was in a junkyard. While it's still got the regular old 3800, it's got a bunch of suspension upgrades over the lesser models, as well as unique body cladding, a floor shifter, those sweet 15" turbine wheels, and some other bits and bobs. It's also got the overly-complex Teves 4-wheel ABS that is apparently a nightmare to repair/bypass on these. Still, they're super sharp looking; a true grandpa spaceship like a lot of the other fancy GM FWDs of the time. . Here's an '86 Buick Electra T-Type; I've seen a couple posts about these recently and they reminded me of this one, the only one I've ever seen. For '86 the 3800 was standard, but it would've been a T-Type upgrade in '85, and said package got you all the sporty interior bells & whistles, firmer suspension, and those sweet 15" alloys. Test drove this '86 Willard Willard- I mean Buick LeSabre yesterday that was for sale at a local junkyard. This one's got 143k miles on it, and I absolutely love that one-year-only sealed-beam front end. Cosmetically it's pretty decent; faded paint and scratches aside, it's got minimal rust and the interior is pretty mint. Mechanically, it could use some help (even with a 3800). The trans slips and it has a stalling issue mixed with some pretty noticeable rocker noise up front. It could be any number of things, but as cool as it is (to me anyway), I don't have the mental capacity to deal with it right now. As of 12/27/23 it's for sale at Jack's Used Auto Parts for $1500. If you wanna be the hero that saves it and fixes it up, go get it. An '87 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera Brougham in a neat shade of green, complete with a matching green interior. This is an interesting year in the Cutlass Ciera evolution as you get the new front end with flush headlights, but it retains the old pre-facelift taillights, which I like a lot more. I first saw this car at a shop in 2019, where it sat for quite some time (slide 7). I then found it street-parked here in 2021, and sometime between then and early 2023 some dumbass got ahold of it, proceeded to put stupid stickers on it, blew it up, and scrapped it. A sad end to a pretty well preserved example that seemed to be in good hands for most of its life. Behold, another personal favorite from the Spring Grove Cemetery car show: this '82 Chevy Citation 😁. There was a good variety of cars at this show, but I still wasn't expecting to see such a nicely preserved piece of two-toned '80s mediocrity. I love these things, I don't care how awful you remember them being, it's great to see one still alive and in good hands, in all its 2.5 Iron Duke-autotragic glory. The only actual imperfection I can find is the lack of the bumper filler panels, which they're all missing anyway. What a campy little time capsule, I'm very glad the owners are taking great care of it 👍 . . Next up in my slew of '80s GM FWD posts is this lovely little two-tone '86-'87 Chevy Cavalier, powered by a TBI 2.0L paired with a 3-speed slushbox. Like most of the cars at this show, this gem has beat the odds of survival, and is a really nice example of a once very disposable car. A bit more sublte, than Monday's 6000 STE, we have this still hella futuristic '86 Cadillac Touring Sedan. It's basically a grandpa sedan Deville with a badass bodykit and some interior and performance enhancements. I love those leather seats and that oh-so-techno digidash. In '86 these still would've had the allegedly not-so-great 4100, but regardless, this beauty seems to have survived just fine. The only other one I've seen was in a junkyard with its roof peeled back. Another favorite from the GM FWD Show, this immaculate little '84 Chevy Citation II notchback coupe. I haven't seen all that many Citations in general, but this is the only roadworthy example of the coupe bodystyle I've ever seen. A forlorn '88-'90 Chevy Cavalier resting in the same dead '90s GM hoard as the Toronado Trofeo and Saturn wagon I posted last month. Aside from the peeling clearcoat and mildly dingy interior, this thing is in tremendous shape, and likely has fairly low miles from sitting so long. A moderately well preserved '84 Pontiac 6000 LE. I'm an absolute sucker for these early FWD A-bodies. They seem like such great all around cars, albeit a bit clunky. But just more evidence of what was hella common and boring in the '80s has now become my favorite stuff. I would think this one has the 2.8, or maybe the Iron Duke, but I don't know for sure. The absurdly square interior is super cool too, and the odo only reads 2k.
