The Zia Singers will be performing The Andrew Sisters Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy to represent this decade. Music, as well as most things from that decade, was focused on WWII. Food, clothing, and transportation shortages were caused by the war. This meant no silk stockings or full skirts. The hottest fashion trend was red lipstick. Rumor had it that Hitler hated red lipstick; in response, American women wore RED—the most popular color being “Victory Red.” Music was directed towards the troops. It was the era of “Big Bands,” with women most often relegated to singing backup for the “crooners” of the day or “girl singers” to front the bands. Popular music was dominated by white men who called the shots. The Andrews Sisters proved to be the exception, becoming second in popularity only to Bing Crosby. Even the Germans liked them! Their recordings were smuggled into Germany under the title of “Hitler’s Marching Songs.” Concert performances are May 18 & 19 at St. Francis Auditorium in Santa Fe. The Zia Singers will perform our final concert with our amazing Artistic Director of nine years, Aaron Howe. Generation by RLY review 🐝 RLY has released their debut EP, "Generation," which has 4 previously released singles and a new track, "Generation," the title track. This review focuses on "Generation." "Generation" is a pop song that "represents our Generation and what we have to figure out everyday. Kelli wrote a line for each of us in this song. It’s a collective cry. We are five women coming to terms with our generation and what that means…” according to the band. Lyrically, it is the band's most evocative and profound work yet as it touches on issues such as depression, loneliness, anxiety and mental health. The delivery of vocals throughout the song is amazing. This song allows them to convey their emotions beautifully. Sonically, the use drums and guitar Instrumentals adds contrast to the mellow nature of the lyrics as it gives the song an upbeat sound. The visualizer features the girls having wires taped to their bodies which could be interpreted as the pressures of living life and standards to keep up with. Towards the end of the video, the girls rip out these wires to signify freedom and a sense of empowerment. It is inspiring to watch. Overrall, "Generation" is a powerful song by RLY. The girls showcase their raw and vulnerable sides on this song. Their ability to convey emotions beautifully with each release is exceptional. Energía by O3G Review 🐝 Latin girlgroup O3G has released their 2nd single, "Energía" and it's a mid tempo ballad. "Energía" is about the post break up era where you start to feel good and happy. When you have moved on and no longer attached or have feelings for that person. The production and Instrumentals has a mix of drums and bass. It starts slow in the beginning and after the first 30 secs, the beat drops and hits you with surprise. The delivery of vocals and harmonies throughout the song is neatly executed. The girls sing in a silky and mellifluous tone to match the nature of the track. This track makes room for them to do more vocally. The inclusion of the melodic rap is interesting listen to. The music video is simple with scenes of the three girls being sucked into an energy illusion where they sing dressed in stunning outfits. Overall, Energía is a fantastic effort from O3G. They did a good job on this track, this track makes use of sentiments excellently. The girls are able to convey the emotions of the song beautifully in a captivating way.
