This was my first foam build in a very long time! It was originally for the 2020 con season, but well...we all know what happened! And then when things opened up, I had a backlog of cosplay and not many cons to go to. I ended up shelving this for what I thought would be indefinitely because it's Calanthe from Season 1 of The Witcher. I knew this character had a limited shelf life and no one would be able to place it after time had passed. Flash forward to a few weeks ago where I decided to speed run it for Geequinox 2024. This was sort of a group project! @gammaraedesign modeled and printed the paws. @alteredfabrics printed the lions. And @theladyesperanza made the shirt and cape. I also had my friends cheering me on as I powered through it, so I felt like I was wearing my community on my back. As expected, even big Witcher fans didn't place me. It was great seeing so many artists at #geequinox 2024 starting their careers in these smaller events, the large events are fun but theres a certain spark that you only get from beginners that you won't find as easily in larger venues. Exclusivity doesn't always mean the most passionate so its enchanting to see the first steps of so many artists dipping toes into the often treacherously unpredictable waters of art. It's fun to predict which ones have what it takes, it's not always easy to tell which ones will be producing the next great comic, novel or soap 😉😁 Small events that keep things open for up in coming artists is an integral step to encouraging more engagement and grassroots artistic marketing. Not to mention the opportunity for inter-disciplinary connections! Finding that artist who can do story board for your novel, finding that vendor who can market your original work. Priceless wisdom to be found. I hope one day to have my own work on display someday
