It never actually rained yesterday, but there was definitely wet stuff happening in the air. Today we are hoping that spitting has passed and we wind up with only the clouds, as promised. At least it will be warmer? We're struggling with this weather, to be honest. We are ready for Summer! But yes, we've got a few more weeks of Spring. We've also got a BIG night in store for you! First you'll find Jeannie behind the bar, noon till 8, serving you your Happy Hour specials and assisting all the film enthusiasts and Downtown Beirut devotees with their cheap swill. We've got our old friend Mike, who burned all six of our Downtown Beirut CDs, bringing in a selection of his film shorts, some of which were shot at our favorite bar of old. We'll be screening them all, with drink breaks in between, as part of the Lower East Side History Month celebrations. And, you know, for fun! Come in and watch this fabulous flashback to the days of yore, when there were burnt out buildings and squatters and drug dealers on the corners and, well, Alphabet City got its reputation as a dangerous place. Caroline, who was OUR bartender, will be with Mike, and we're excited to see her! It should be an entertaining evening! Karen comes in at 8, catching the tail end of all that, and setting up for her usual fun Friday night antics. Stick around after the movies to watch what happens in our little oasis of weird. As last night's one-star review says, "there are better bars in the East Village," so don't feel obligated to hang out in ours. But if our particular flavor of odd suits you, you're already a member!
