@jim.campers combines documentation and fiction to introduce visitors to fields such as architecture, ecology, magic and machine intelligence. With the video installation Beemushroomed, he combines primeval shamanic insights with contemporary developments in vision and perception. The work implies an ancient relationship between bees, their monochromatic vision and the altered states of consciousness caused by consuming entheogenic mushrooms. These elements come together in the search for experiences that go beyond the limits of rationality and empirical understanding. The two photographic works Inside Out and Psilocybin Cubensis are part of the project Forward escape into the past, in which Campers presents photographs that lie at the intersection of nostalgia and a visionary utopia. The images also offer a vision of a future separate from technological progress, in which people seek a connection to their past and to nature. PHENOMENA is the third exhibition curated by @elderscollectief . The abandoned school building of Stella Maris that forms the backdrop was erected in 1911, and can be visited for the last time on this occasion before its conversion into residential real estate.The collective invited a selection of international artists, four of which present their work for the first time in Belgium. Through a cycle of contemporary installations with an immersive character, they invite the spectators on an expedition through the hidden layers of the building. ELDERS continues the site’s original function as a space where the worldviews were shaped, with a stimulating experience that explores the complexity of perception and corporeality. PHENOMENA explores various alternative perspectives, ranging from transhumanistic futures and elusive physical principles to improbable dream worlds. Enigmatic experiences evoke questions of matter and existence, in addition to underlying reflections on our own perception and relativity. They indicate that what we consider as reality are actually for a large part constructions of our own minds, making the ultimate reality intangible. Today starts the first Kortrijk Art Weekend. You can go to more than 20 locations for an intense, three-day art event around contemporary visual art in Kortrijk. At Abby you can take an exclusive look inside the impressive 16th century chapel during Kortrijk Art Weekend, pending the opening in November 2024. In this exhibition I’m pleased to present a selection of photos from the construction site of the new museum, designed by @barozziveiga and @tab______architects Next to my work you can see the video work 'Papagalo, What's the Time' (2022) by filmmaker and artist @ingelvaikla from the urban collection. During this weekend we will also open the doors of our studios at the @kunstwerkstede This is a brand new experimental workspace in Kortrijk that offers affordable long-term and residential studios for visual artists. These studios are run by me and @liz_e_r and you can find us at the @landmarck.kortrijk site. What you should definitely not miss is: PHENOMENA 0.1 from @elderscollectief and @designregiok During this presentation, we bring MX ចម្លាក់ (MX Sculpture), an ultra widescreen projection by @xaviermarysculpture, in its first screening since it was produced for his solo exhibition MX Temple at BPS22 Charleroi in 2019. It will be screened here in a never-before-seen version in 4K resolution. In addition, the three designers in residence Simon Hampikian, Yara Veloso and Nicolas Zanoni will present the results of their two-month stay in Kortrijk under the guidance of Designregio Kortrijk and Elders. OPEN OPROEP -- Neem zelf deel aan WONDER Creativity Festival 👇 WONDER keert volgend jaar terug naar Kortrijk van 19 oktober tot 5 november. Wil je zelf met jouw werk op WONDER staan, of op een andere manier deelnemen? Dat kan! WONDER is een festival waar design, arts, film, muziek en literatuur centraal staan, net zoals optimisme en positivisme. “We geloven dat creatieve geesten oplossingen bedenken voor onze maatschappelijke uitdagingen. We willen dit vertrouwen in de toekomst overbrengen op onze bezoekers en hen daarmee inspireren en enthousiasmeren”; klinkt het bij de organisatie. Iedereen kan een voorstel indienen: gewone mensen, studenten, organisaties, ondernemingen, scholen,… zowel Belgisch als internationaal. Je voorstel kan een expositie of installatie zijn, maar bijvoorbeeld ook een event, workshop of activiteit. Voor de installatie van de K-TOTEM, de totem van @designregiok, besloten @eva.cicvaric en mezelf om het naakte stalen frame van de totem architecturaal te verweven en in te pakken met zwarte polyethyleen en polypropyleen netten, in samenwerking met het bedrijf @huck.be We kozen voor een sculpturale aanpak, met heel wat vierkante meters net, honderd meters touw en 700 kabelbinders. De K-TOTEM door Eva en mezelf ontworpen voor @designregiok, staat in teken van het @mementofestivalkortrijk, dat dit weekend van start gaat. Het gebruik van netten verwijst naar de expositie ‘Rafelen’, die te zien zal zijn in @texturekortrijk het museum voor vlas en textiel van Kortrijk. Deze groepstentoonstelling maakt ook deel uit van het Memento festival. ‘Rafelen’ wordt een unieke rendez-vous met textiel en elkaar, van 18 maart tot 16 april gratis te bezoeken. De mobiele “Gallery” op de Grote Kring brengt meer zichtbaarheid voor innovatieve projecten ✨ Deze nieuwe presentatiemodule werd ontwikkeld binnen het project DESIGN IN TOWN en biedt ruimte aan bedrijven en organisaties om hun activiteiten, producten, initiatieven te delen met het grote publiek. “Op die manier wordt er ingespeeld op een versterking van de handelskern en regionale visibiliteit, en kan je als organisatie eens op een andere manier over een project communiceren. En dat op verschillende locaties." Voor de kick-off van de “Gallery” ontwikkelde open makerspace BUDA::lab een presentatie. Passanten krijgen meer uitleg over de werking van het lab en ontdekken hun projecten. De uitbating is in handen van @designregiok.
