Time for a little story + pretty photos! It was 2020, the event industry was basically closed for business and I was home during lockdown, trying to find a way to “use” my love for weddings and design. One day, bored at home, I took a piece of cotton canva and painted it and created a vow book. I liked it but I knew it would not be something that would appeal to a lot of people. Why would anybody buy my hand painted vow book?! 😂 So I painted a bigger piece of canva, and @theflatlaysstyler was born. 🎉 In the first 6-7 months I sold only one mat, it was a gamble and honestly I did not know if anybody would like my hand painted mats…..but I had nothing to loose, so I kept on going (cause I am a Capricorn after all eheh) and I am so happy I did because I was able to create another small business that brings me joy every day and sometimes sells internationally too! At the same time I got deeper into flat lay photos and styling and I am proud to say that now, at every wedding, I help out the photographer by preparing all the items they need for the photos and create a flat lay that they then rework based on their needs! This often saves 30 min to 1 hour to the photographer that can instead, concentrate her/his time on the bride and groom’s getting ready! Plus I absolutely LOVE paper products, I always have and always will. When it is time to book a make up artist and hair stylist for your wedding day there are few things that I recommend: First off, it is always best to first select the wedding dress. The gown can have an impact on your hairstyle and also on the make up. The second step is to start gathering inspirational images of make up and hair that you like. You can do this by creating a gallery on your phone. Don’t worry too much about how many and how different they are, let them sit there for a week or so. When you are ready to dig into make up and hair, check the images you saved: Which style you see yourself? How much makeup do you use in your everyday life? Do you prefer a natural look or a bolder look? When you look at your inspiration photos, try to understand what you actually like of the photo. Is it the hairstyle, the lipstick or the eyeliner? Once you have some sort of clarity start searching for an artist or ask your planner to recommend you one! Look at her portfolio and if you like what you see set up a call with her. The make up artist and hair stylist will be with you for most part of the getting ready so it is important you “vibe” with her. What can you expect when working with me on wedding design? Over the years I have spent a lot of time to create a design roadmap and to ensure it is seamless and exciting for my couples. Being very strong on logistics, I always felt the pressure to really work hard on creating a *good* design process for my clients. Each step has a specific reason for existing and it has proven to be efficient and indispensable! First of all, with all my full planning clients, it is important to note that before digging into the design, we have to create a draft budget. This is important to create a design proposal that is realistic. You might be wondering what I mean by design related vendors….We are talking about florist, bakery, stationer, furniture rental, tabletop rentals, textiles, backdrops, dance floors, staging and tenting. Once we have a draft budget, it is time for..... STEP 1 of my design process: everything starts with a questionnaire that you will need to fill out; it has lots of different questions about your story, style, colors, flowers, likes and dislikes, must have and more. You don’t have to worry about not having an answer to all the questions! I always ask to fill it out together as a couple, at the best of your knowledge, and I’ll guide you to discover YOUR vision, even if you think you don’t have one yet. What I am looking for is a starting point, a detail, more often than not, my job is about reading between the lines and bring to the surface that vision you did not know you already have. Let’s talk about wedding cake and desserts 🍰🧁 More and more couples are ditching the “showstopper”multiple-tiers wedding cake for desserts such as macaroons, tarts, cupcakes, eclairs which I love! If I could go back to my wedding day I would do small wedding cake plus a glorious dessert table🤩 Not everybody likes wedding cakes and many guests don’t even touch their slice which is so sad considering the wedding cake has a portion of the budget itself. A simple 3 tier wedding cake for a hundred guests, with no decor whatsoever is easily $1,000. Offering a dessert table also helps with allergies, intolerances and food restrictions as you can order smaller quantities for the guests who can’t have certain ingredients; it is also an experience for the guests and a great opportunity to get up from the table once the dinner is over to pick and choose your favorite sweet! Whether you decide to go with the full cake or a mixture of cake and desserts, I always recommend doing a cake/dessert tasting/box before booking the bakery, it is fun and who doesn’t like it?!

I photographed my last wedding of 2023 a few weeks ago. 18 weddings this year… I’m shook. 21 year old me would be in disbelief that this is my reality. The places I’ve gone, the weddings I’ve experienced, the couples I’ve worked with; I will forever feel so blessed that this is what I get to do for a living. If there’s anything you should know about me, it’s that I love this “work” so very much. The hugs after the ceremony, tears streaming down your face as you exchange vows, your guests raising glasses to you, the way he looks at you smiling ear to ear, the look your mom gives you when you put on your dress. I get to witness it all, and freeze those moments in time so that you can reminisce forever. I think it’s obvious that as a photographer, I live to produce photographic memories but my purpose goes deeper then that. It’s showing up on your wedding day and being a friendly face, a positive energy, a calming presence, and a helping hand. Wedding party attendant dresses/suits options✨ There are a few things to consider when it comes to your bridal party attire: ✨wedding style and color palette: Think about your flowers, rental items, your dress but also about the venue/s. How does it look like? What style is it? You probably don’t want a flashy pink sequin dress in a church or in a European looking venue ( or maybe you don’t want it ever 😂) ✨think about your wedding party attendants and their skin tones. Avoid any color that will wash them out. You want them to feel comfortable too! ✨the season: are you getting married in winter in a mountain location? Or in a tropical island? Consider the weather and the possibility of being cold or too hot. ✨Printed vs solid colors or mismatched vs.coordinated: have a little fun with it! Maybe you want them all to look the same or you want to leave them the option of choosing the style of the dress as long as it is of the right tone. There is no right or wrong here but make sure they look cohesive and ask your attendants to show you the dresses before they purchase! ✨Lastly think of how you want your wedding to be: fun, timeless, edgy, romantic, chic, out of the box. When I started offering venue search to couples (on top of full planning), I did it for two main reasons: 1. Searching for venues is very much time consuming, let alone narrowing down the search to a few. This is valid whether you are local or don’t live in California. We have a variety of literally everything and often it is hard to understand what is the right fit as far as budget, style, logistics. A planner who has experience with venue search will help you understand how much you can spend on your venue, based on your overall budget and can bring up the “can or can’t do”. 2. The venue is one of the first “vendors” you book and it is also the one that takes a huge portion of your budget (especially when we talk about venues that offer food & beverage). As a couple that does not work in the wedding industry, you (rightfully) don’t know what all the other vendors can cost, therefore it is *very* easy to underestimate the cost of things and end up way off your budget or with not enough budget to have everything you wanted. When I work with couples that hire me for venue search, we start with the vision you have and the overall budget for the wedding. It is a pretty organized process and it is generally not overwhelming like it would be if you were to do all the work!! I then work my magic and sift through the hundreds of venues to create a list of what would fit best, based on your vision. We will go through everything: food & beverage minimums, room blocks, attrition, style, backup plans, events paces and more, so that you can find your perfect venue without worrying about doing a mistake or missing any important information.
