We said goodbye to sweet Bernadette who took her final breath yesterday 💔 She joins her mother Lady who passed away a month ago after being adopted at the age of 12 by @andyraysj.  Bernie was about 16 years old. She was born in 2007 and was part of an unwanted litter of black pit puppies that the breeder could not sell.  She was literally dumped over the fence at a volunteer’s home in Compton with her mama who was also just a puppy at the time. They all proceeded to live underneath the house. Eventually we were able to get semi-feral very shy Bernadette moved to another volunteer’s home in Pasadena where she flourished and lived with multiple dogs and cats. Bernadette was always shy with people and eventually went to live with Lori in Altadena. She never had any applications and could not really be touched so the decision was made to remove her from adoptions and she would live with Lori permanently. We moved her to the kennel in 2013 with her best friend, blind dog Petey. As Bernie aged she made more human friends at the kennel and enjoyed her simple life which included nightly pupsicles, therapy from @southbaypawsup and @theamisty and the comfort of her cozy bed. Her presence will be missed but we are so grateful to have been able to give her a long loved life. When you meet Bernie, you can tell she has been loved and adored. She joined DDR when her family experienced a very unexpected turn of events. Check out her Pom-Pom tail! This fancy girl is smart and well-trained. She knows lots of commands: sit, down, stay, wait, off, crate, place, wait, back off, out of kitchen, come, shake, and settle. She enjoys playing with other canine friends. Bernie is being fostered in the San Antonio area. She’s a 2 year old, 60 lb Bernedoodle.
