ADVSERSARY SATURDAY: MEET CHINA’S ROBOT DOG. 🇨🇳 As technological innovation continues to advance, so is China’s development in the area of robotic warfare. Meet China’s ‘robodog’ that went viral on social media when a People’s Liberation Army soldier was seen walking alongside man’s best friend—only this time, it’s a robot dog! The 15kg robot dog is a remote-controlled four-legged robot with automatic rifles mounted on their backs and has a 2-4 hours battery life equipped with a 4D wide-angle sensing system allowing it to transmit real time footage essential for reconnaissance. It can also perform actions like basic movement, lying down and jumping. What’s more interesting? It can plan its own routes and avoid obstacles just by itself. But to note, it’s not just China that has this technology. US and India also has the same technology in their military arsenal. The Indian Army, let’s say, has its robot dog named “MULE” which means Multi-Utility Legged Equipment utilized for surveillance and combat missions. The bottomline is, these autonomous weapons systems are deadly for opposing forces. Just like the last video released by China’s private military contractor wherein a drone carrying the robot dog fitted with a machine gun was directly dropped behind enemy lines potentially springing surprise attacks on enemy backyards. They can also be placed on the rooftops to work along with ground troops for a surprise ambush. As to what I have stated on the first sentence of this post, “as technological innovation continues to advance” so are robots. On the good side, advancements in robotics aim to save lives by taking on tasks too dangerous for humans, showcasing how innovation can serve humanity. Just received some brand new blades for Azrael. Thank you @combat_robot_kits for sending the files to @sendcutsend and getting these blades made out of AR500 steel. The stock titanium blade was fantastic, but I enjoy experimenting, so new blades with a new material will be fun. I was initially worried about these blades not being able to fit in the spinner hub, but my qualms were put to rest the moment I put it on. They fit like a glove and should stay sharper, longer. Went back to Beloit for Betz Botz this weekend! Both bots did good, but started the day out with a bad drive motor in Lil Pacino. Struggled to find a working motor, but made it to the arena only to get my titanium shift cut by Imp. Il Pacino’s shift was so bent from Je Ne Sais Quoi it had to be cut off. Next round saw both bots taking wins so Lil Pacino finally got its first victory!!! Lil Pacino then struggled with wheels staying on and even died during the rumble (charge your batteries lol). Il Pacino had some weapon motor issues where it seemed to burn itself out early and make strange noises the rest of the fight. Still managed some great fights with Flingit and Thunderchief even taking a tooth off the latter’s drum. Overall I accomplished my usual goal of getting one win and each bot did just that. It is also time to retire the current chassis on Il Pacino. Likely an electronics change as well. New parts are cut, just need to drill holes. It’s been quite the ride with the bot that started it all. 7 tournaments, 2 podium finishes, and countless memories and friends made along the way. Can’t wait to keep making more! Next stop HORD June 1st!! Also may be adding a new bot to the lineup. Not too many Fairyweight events around here, but possibly coming to an event this year! Arena announcement post! Remy here! If you have seen our recent Stories you already know what we're up to, but we think we are finally ready for a formal post: we have a new beetleweight arena! As you can see, the core structure is complete, with just a few finishing touches remaining (polycarbonate, lights, ventilation). This will be the arena used for our event, SMIRK, that will be held at the end of June. Rachel and I designed this arena from the ground up, and we plan to share the design after validating it with this build. We'll also be making a series of posts in the future detailing the design process, our goals, and how this design achieves them. For now, I'll provide an overview of the construction. The arena is built around aluminum extrusion from TNutz.com. In my research, TNutz was easily the most affordable option for extrusion, which makes this design much more reasonable from a cost perspective. Furthermore, they are partially subsidizing our build, so consider them the next time you are working on anything using aluminum extrusion. The main arena uses two layers of 1/4" thick polycarbonate, so it is constructed from 1020 extrusion, which allows for the polycarbonate to easily be retained in the extrusion channels. The arena sits on a rolling base constructed from 1515 extrusion. The base splits into 2 carts that will hold the arena components for transport, so the 1515 extrusion was chosen for additional rigidity compared to 1020. The carts will fit through a standard doorway and can be transported in a 6'x12' U-Haul trailer. The entire arena only requires 32 screws to be assembled, and it has tons of handles for easy manipulation of panels, angled 1/2" polycarbonate kickplates, double doors for easy load-in... but I'm quickly running out of characters. I wanted to have a nice display behind me for where I'm filming YouTube videos. Now that I have an actual office dedicated to video production and CAD work instead of just my bedroom, I decided to go a little overboard with the decor! On the left side these black panels have badges I've collected over the years dating back to 2018 from most of the competitions that I have competed at in mostly chronological order. I also have my trophy display case that used to be in my living room at my last apartment brought up here to the office as a more permanent installation with parts I've collected from many of the opponents that my robots have defeated or fought against. Meet Tiny Timothy! Last Saturday, Brandon and I built our @witchdoctorbattlebots Camp Witch Doctor bot kit. We chose the Hungry Hippo 1lb plastic kit and watched the videos as we put it together. We had a lot of fun and it only took a couple of hours to go from parts to a working bot! I spent the next few days slowly painting it and putting it back together. I named it after @timothythehippo from the @sanantoniozoo #timothyforpresident #napsforeveryone Although we’ll be volunteering at the upcoming @texasrobotcombat event on the 11th, I still plan to take him to see if we can sneak into any exhibitions.
