After you reach out to me, we will have a brief phone call to discuss what you are looking for in your photos. From there, I will send you a link where you can book your date online. I’ll send you a welcome guide, which is packed with essential information so you are prepared for your session. Next you will receive my clothing guide with tips for picking out the perfect outfits. Finally, you’ll receive my location guide outlining my hand-picked locations with essential information and photographs of each of them. A week in advance I’ll send an email checking in, and we will finalize your location and outfits. You’ll have your session! I’ll get to work editing and email you your gallery when it’s finished. I’ll send detailed instructions for how to download your photos and purchase prints. That’s it! Editing is a process! The first thing I do is cull down the photos to the best ones. I exclude blurry ones, closed eyes, duplicates, etc. so you are getting the highest quality shots. From there, I crop and straighten to make sure horizon lines are accurate and angles are flattering. Then the magic happens! Do you store backups of my photos? I keep two copies of your photos at all times. As soon as I get home from a session, I copy all images from the memory card to an external hard drive before I get to work. This ensures that images are in two places at all times. Once I have completed editing, I copy all files onto a second external hard drive and only then will I clear out the memory card. A bit more about me! It’s so important to know a bit about the person who will be photographing your family because it helps to make sure you are choosing someone who is a good match. I am definitely an introvert and on the quieter side. I take my time when getting to know new people, especially young children so everyone is comfortable with the new person they will be spending time with or perhaps who they have not seen in a while. I’m an empath, and have honed this into a skill with my day job as a physical therapist. I always try to put myself in someone else’s position and attempt to understand what they may be feeling. With adults and children, I am constantly assessing comfort levels because comfortable, relaxed people make for the best photos. Finally, I’m extremely curious and always learning. There’s definitely a nerdy, driven component to my personality which keeps me busy and always striving to be better at what I do. Prior to each session, I spend time preparing to ensure that everything goes smoothly! The night before, I charge my camera battery and backup battery. I check that I have all of my equipment necessary in my camera bag. Remember the questionnaire you filled out when you booked? I will re-read it and learn everyone’s names, interests, and any unique information about each person so I can adapt to what your family needs. I’ll come up with my plan for your session including what poses will work best, if there is anything specific that you want photographed, and what parts of the chosen location should work best. I’ll plan what time I need to leave for your session so I arrive early. Storing your photos is one of the most important things to do after your photo session. I recommend downloading your photos to a computer and backing them up on a second external hard drive and to the cloud. Flash drives can be finicky and aren’t the best for long-term storage. Keep your hard drive in a safe place, away from children and pets. I also recommend printing your photos so you have a physical copy of them. I offer professional prints through my online gallery that will stand the test of time.
