Another overdue shout out to our AAU girls! Between the nine of them, two competed copper and the other seven competed bronze in the Elite and Advanced Divisions. Three more of them achieved Elite ranking and will move up to that division for our next competition, leaving just two in the Advanced Division! One of the beauties of Ninja Zone is that it teaches kids to think outside the box. Ninjas learn a variety of skills and when presented with an obstacle course they decide for themselves how to interact with the course. Today at our Ninja Games, each child will be given the opportunity to attack the course. The judges award points based on the skills the Ninja performs in a set time period! Each Ninja’s run looks different despite having the same obstacles laid out as each child sees things differently. This weekend has been a whirlwind of activity for us at Coastal Classic and we aren’t finished yet. But I had to take a moment out to give a shout out to this beautiful athlete! When I first met with her future college coach last spring, I told her this athlete was something special—coachable, well mannered, tremendously athletic, and just an all-around good kid. She was very much a work in progress, but we had a sound plan to get her to where she needed to be. I assured the coach she would not regret it if she recruited this athlete. She’s been with us just over a year and we’ve spent that time helping her heal both physically and emotionally. We’ve fixed technique, taken her to situations where she was able to work with some of the best coaches in the country, and moved her back to USAG from another governing body. At the same time we have allowed her to be a normal teenager and enjoy school and extra curricular activities. It’s amazing how an athlete will flourish when properly nurtured.
