We got informed about a cat with bad raspiratory in town. Sandra went this morning to town and luckily found him. It’s not the general way… often the cats are walking around and it’s not easy to find them. But this lucky one was found and got the treatments he needed - plus he could be sterilized. Of course there he was not the only one who need to be sterilized. - if you spot cats please, if you can’t bring them by your self to the vet, take pictures of the cat, the surrounding and sent a Google maps pin. That makes Sandra’s search much more easier. Jonas @jonasems and his girlfriend Zoi followed Sandra to learn more about our work at MAW, what it means to care for the strays and do daily duties like catching and sterilize them to protect their health and to stop the overpopulation. An island which is so rich and lives from the joy and fun of entertaining also has his shadow side. This side is the wold of the animals which are mostly left behind. This means not only strays also farm animals live on bad condition and need all of us who report the wrong circumstances. A lot of tourists are complaining but don’t do something and it’s so easy to be part of the change. Our Mandarina, short Ina, is recovering with Mirka: - the removed eye is fine, stitches are out - the remaining eye has a small hole in the cornea, probably there was a thorn inside. it’s healing to the extent that is possible. she got drops that will help the lance to recover. - we will continue observing the skin and do dermatologic examination around 30th may if needed - her body is still full of thorns under the skin and unfortunately some are in the muscles already. Mirka removed a few that were under the skin, but she cries a lot. The thorns are very dangerous as they can migrate a lot in the body and end up in the spine or any organ - the current suggestion is to consider a CT and then when she is fit enough for a surgery and remove the thorns, sterilise her and fix the hernia all in one intervention! 💖 thanks to donations we could cover the cost for the eye surgery and some treatments done in Mykonos. This is dog was found by two girls on the side of the road in terrible condition, who thought she was dead. The Eye and face was destroyed and full of maggots, the body full of ticks , fleas and thorns. She either escaped from terrible conditions or was abandoned. Villy and Yannis of Petopia provided emergency treatment at our local vet Nico and Lemonia offered hospitality and consultation. Athina @vetandgroomer performed the surgery to remove the eye and access the interior damage. Mirka will take her home to oversee her ongoing recovery, treatment and progress. A busy week again for MAW ..lots of cats suffering with cat flu..respiratory issues..eye problems etc As well of lots of abandoned kittens rescued ..some not so lucky..other thriving in foster care .. Food always an issue ..unfortunately Municipality Mykonos hasn’t funds enough to extend more funding for food😰😰 MAW paying for sterilizations and all medical bills for strays at 2 Vets ..as the Municipality Sterilization Program ALSO run out 😰😰😰 Please be kind ..do what you can to help the strays …we are all they have to be the voice and lifeline!!!
