This classy Carstens Tönnieshof vase, in a rare yellow glaze 😅 This form 200 vase is the work of respected ceramic artist, Heinz Siery, and I’ve not seen this vibrant colour on this shape before! I’m big fan of Carstens and their innovative and brave ceramics, but there’s little information available about the company’s history or its productions. I believe the firm was founded by brothers Christian and Ernst Carstens in 1946 and produced ceramics for over 30 years, before declaring bankruptcy in 1977. The original factory was located in Freden an der Leine (West Germany), and during the 1960s they expanded with production in Austria, Chile, Argentina and Australia. Notable designers at the company included Trude Carstens (wife of Ernst Carstens), Gerda Heuckeroth, Dieter Peter, and the designer of this vase, Heinz Siery. This striking and collectible 1960s ceramic comes in excellent undamaged condition and is engraved ‘200’ on its base. For #westgermanwednesday, I thought this stunning Carstens Tonnieshof "Luxus" Vase/Jug deserved it's own post. It is a striking rare West German art pottery piece designed by Dieter Peter in 1970. Model number: 7697-18. Creamy-brown glaze with dark brown / black neck, moulded stylised flower patterns, outline and knobs on the handle. I just love the little brown projections on the handle - they make me think of a dinosaur - so tactile! The backstamp consists of the two-house mark over a CT, 7697-18, W. - GERMANY 15cm wide x 10cm deep x 18cm high In excellent vintage condition without chips or cracks. Produced in West Germany by Carstens Tönnieshof, this scarce ‘Peking’ design comes in an unusual white and burnt orange glaze which I have’t seen before. Highly regarded ceramic artist, Gerda Heuckeroth, collaborated with Carstens from 1962 to develop and produce an ‘Atelier’ line of studio pottery for the company. She worked from a studio in Hamburg until 1964, where she designed and oversaw production of this series of highly collectible ceramics. (Sold) Oh yes… a rare and ultra stylish Carstens Tönnieshof ‘Prehistoric’ vase 😍 This little gem was produced in Germany during the 1960s and designed by my favourite ceramic designer of that era, Gerda Heuckeroth. Part of Carstens’ limited run of ‘Atelier Series’ ceramics, it features an abstract cave painting motif reminiscent of the work of London sculptor and artist Ron Hitchins, and is embossed on the base with the manufacturer’s stamp and model number, 7152-20. Highly regarded ceramic artist, Gerda Heuckeroth, collaborated with Carstens from 1962 to develop and produce an ‘Atelier’ line of studio pottery for the company. She worked from a studio in Hamburg until 1964, where she designed and oversaw production of this series of highly collectible ceramics. A striking pair of CARSTENS TÖNNIESHOF ‘Mooncrater’ relief vases from its high-end ‘Luxus’ range of ceramics, designed for the company by Dieter Peter and Rudolph Christmann in the late 1960s. The deeply cratered décor was no doubt a response to the Apollo 11 moon landing of 1969, which inspired several décors in the Luxus series.
