Not so long ago, someone posted a comment on one of my dumbbell workout videos and said, "Skinny people make this look so easy". Wait...WHAT?! 😑 I replied, "I think you meant STRONG." Weight training is SO much more effective than traditional cardio (or even isolated weight training) and here's why... When you do resistance training (ESPECIALLY compound exercises performed in a HIIT format), you trigger the "afterburn", where your body continues to burn fat & calories even AFTER your workout is over. Yep, even while you're sitting around watching T.V.! This is why I always tell people to forget about using a "calories burned" monitor. With the style of workouts I teach...those monitors are simply not accurate. In case you're wondering, all you need is a pair of dumbbells to do my 21-Day Metabolic Reset. And here's what the schedule looks like.. There are 6 total workouts per week (all 25 min or less)... Three dumbbell workouts per week, all different every week, nothing repeated. Feel like you've "tried it all", but your body just won't break through a plateau? It's really common and there's nothing "wrong" with you. Problem is: moderate intensity cardio is really inefficient. (Yes, "traditional" cardio classes and running are moderate intensity). It seems to work at first, but after a short time you suddenly hit a plateau. So you do more. You add an extra 10 minutes to your run. You squeeze in an extra cardio class. But for the amount of time you're putting in, it just seems like the results are SO minimal. πŸ˜– There's a scientific reason for why long cardio doesn't work well for fat burning and it's called IMTG. It's the way OUR (women, not men) bodies and energy systems burn fat. It's why men seem to get results really fast no matter what they do and WE don't. (So annoying!) If you didn't know, I recommend working out 5-6 per week. Seem like a lot? Too much of a commitment? Here's the thing about that... I wanted to share what Kaz wrote because I catch a lot of flack for "squatting too deep" in some of the posts I put on Facebook (maybe you've seen them). But the advice β€œdon’t go past 90 degrees” is only a half truth... It's appropriate if you have limited range of motion or you're dealing with an injury. (And I've got modifications galore for ya, so don't worry if "ass to grass" squats aren't an option for you.) For everyone else, deep squats (using proper form!) are a NORMAL, functional movement. Isolated exercises are one-muscle-at-a-time moves. They don't burn a lot of fat and calories and it takes FOREVER to see results ...and it takes MUCH more time spent working out. (Don't get me wrong, isolated exercise have their place, but it's more of a rehab thing, not a fat-burning thing) That's why I favor COMPOUND exercises (multi-muscle moves). You'll burn WAY more fat and calories with these bad boys and you'll spend HALF the time working out if you do it right. (That's not an exaggeration, that's science!) Most people don't think about "rest" as part of getting results, but the truth is... ...rest is extremely important in reaching your fitness goals! If you've lifted weights before, Burn360 isn't your run-of-the-mill resistance training program and here's why... First, I don't do any isolated exercises (those are one-muscle-at-a-time moves like bicep curls). Those are very inefficient and take WAAAAY too much time to get results. One of the reasons I use short, punchy workouts is because it's one of the easiest ways for people to stay CONSISTENT. And consistency is KEY. Be careful!" πŸ™€ ...Yes, I get a TON of comments like this, so I'm just gonna come right out and say it... f you're NOT doing resistance training using CHALLENGING weights, you're doing fitness wrong! (Unless you have a medical reason, of course). Here's why... βœ… Using challenging weights is an insanely fast way to burn up excess fat and calories. (If you're mostly doing cardio workouts, you will be in for the BEST shock of your life once you pick up some weights!) βœ… Using challenging weights is how you get that lean, firm, toned-up look. Years ago when I was pregnant with my son, I was REALLY sick (as in I felt like I was on the verge of puking for 8 months). After he was born, I noticed my arms and legs had become "dimply". So, when he was 3 months old, I started lifting again (no cardio). The dimples were gone (and I mean GONE!) in about 4-6 weeks and the tone came right back. Amazing how quickly your body can get that lean muscle back! βœ… Lifting not only improves your strength, but your overall health, fitness, bone density, hormones, and sleep. The benefits cannot be overstated. βœ… Form matters! Look, you can throw out your back picking up an Amazon box if you don't squat properly or if you're weak (a very dangerous combo). So YES, you must also use proper form when lifting weights. Okay, so what is a "challenging" weight?
