Not only did I receive my doctorate today, but a doctorate with The Nancy Millis Medal. The Nancy Millis Medal is awarded to only 5% of outstanding PhD theses based on examiners’ reports, endorsement by the School Director of Graduate Research and approval by the Board of Graduate Research. My family and friends around the globe flew for 24 hours to be here with me today - rejoicing is an understatement. I have received love that is so pure. I felt it pass my mind and my heart; I feel it in my soul. This journey was not for the faint-hearted, but with the support and guidance from my supervisors, I have received this today. There were many sleepless nights, long weekends on the desk, and multiple NOs to social invitations. I now understand why less than 2% of the world’s population has a doctorate. Massive thanks to my @latrobeuni community. I have studied, taught some tough subjects, and marked hundreds of assessments and tests while conducting my research. It was only doable because of the community of support around me. Many years later, I leave Latrobe with my brain razor-sharp, a head held high, and licensed to think critically. Mexico 🇲🇽 Part 3 : After teaching at #HairCamp in Acapulco we hoped a flight ✈️ to Mexico City to teach at the black_academymx I was excited to see one of romerostyle many locations in this beautiful country 🤩 I was received with open arms and impressed by their dedication to the craft! I was pleased to meet and work with talented artists, especially my translator sofaequis It was so special sharing this experience with my partner in craft muyvette who’s dream it was for me to teach in Latin America. From meeting her as a client, to working with her as a makeup artist, and now traveling Globally together, I realize now how she has always been manifested for us this moment 8 years in the making 🥹 The trip was topped of with a tour of the Mexico City by romerostyle himself! It’s so crazy because all everyone said before I left for Mexico was “Be Careful, Be Safe”. But I left much safer there then in San Francisco or Los Angeles! When people want to see ancient architecture they go to Europe, but what they don’t realize is many nationalities built beautiful buildings hundreds of years ago all over the city. And the Food! This is according to this year's report of the National Discrimination & Racism Monitor. 41.3% of black men and 38.8% of Muslim men surveyed experienced discrimination by the police. But But a third of black men (34.2%) and around a quarter of Muslim women (25.3%) also reported this. What can I do if I am discriminated against by the police? ❗ It is important to remain calm and not allow yourself to be provoked, as some officers try to do just that. ❗ Make a note of when and where the discrimination took place, who was involved, and what was said and done. ❗ Secure evidence. In Nienburg wurde am 30.03.2024 ein BIPoC bei einem Polizeieinsatz erschossen https://taz.de/Toedlicher-Polizeieinsatz-in-Nienburg/!5999138/. In Madrid wurden am 29.03.2024 zwei BIPoCs von Polizeibeamten verprügelt https://www.dasding.de/newszone/polizei-in-madrid-verpruegelt-pocs-auf-offener-strasse-100.html, https://madridnofrills.com/lavapies-police/.
