Assam Rifles in a joint operation with the Customs Department, seized 406 kgs marijuana worth Rs 1.86 crore hidden in the forest area of Neuramura Taibandal, Sepahijala district on Sunday. "Based on the specific information regarding the presence of a large quantity of marijuana hidden in the forest area of Neuramura Taibandal , Sepahijala District. A joint operation was launched by Assam Rifles and the Customs Department, resulting in the recovery of 406 kg of marijuana worth Rs 1.86 crore," Assam Rifles said. Assam Rifles said that the seized consignment has been handed over to the Customs Department of Agartala for further legal proceedings. They were trying to enter into Manipur after they came under intense firing from the rival PDF and KNA (B) in Myanmar, the officials said. They were spotted at Saivom under Tengnoupal Police Station around 9 kilometres from the police station in the Indian side yesterday. The entire group of the 34 armed insurgents chose to surrender with their automatic weapons before the force, they said. They were handed over to the Tengnoupal Police Station at around 9 pm yesterday and later they were shifted to a temporary camp at Yaithibi Loukol under Thoubal District. Last year on December 2nd, around 600 cadres of United National Liberation Front led by Kh Pambei, including their Acting Chairman, General Secretary and leaders were given a warm welcome by Manipur Government. UNLF, which is Manipur’s oldest armed insurgent group signed a peace pact with Centre and State Government in New Delhi on November 29. #Manipur | Four militants of the banned outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (People War Group) were arrested by a combined team of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles in Thoubal district, an officer said on Friday. “Acting on intelligence inputs about the presence of militants, a coordinated operation was launched at Yairipok Bazaar area during which the militants were arrested on Thursday,” the police officer said. The officer said five mobile handsets, two 9mm pistols with 15 live rounds, five demand letters, twenty 5.56mm ammunition, four 7.62mm ammunition were seized from the possession of arrested militants. Police also apprehended one active member of the proscribed outfit KCP (Taibanganba) organization from Imphal West district on Thursday. Four active members of the outlawed outfit KCP (People War Group) were seized from the Yaripok Bazar area in a successful joint operation carried out by Thoubal Police and the 33 Assam Rifles. The operation was driven by intelligence inputs and led by OC/CDO Thoubal, with ASP(OPS) Thoubal keeping a close eye on matters. The seized suspects were named as Sinam Bijen alias Mangang Meetei (38), Angom Ingo alias Apa Singh (53), Warepam Jayenta Singh (36), and Oinam Naocha alias Max Singh (24). All accused turned out to be actively linked with the rebel group KCP (PWG). During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered a cache of incriminating stuff, including five mobile phones, two 9mm pistols with 15 live rounds, five demand letters, and 20 rounds of 5.56mm and four rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Despite their efforts, the third jawan remains missing, prompting an urgent search operation in collaboration with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Vikas Pandey, serving as the sub-divisional officer of Patori, provided insights into the tragic incident, stating, “An unfortunate incident took place after the election procedure was completed where three soldiers started drowning in a river when they had to take a bath.” He continued, “The locals saved two of the jawans.
