This custom build started with a question about mods to an Alligator I was selling, and snowballed into a full build. After some serious decision making, this is what the new owner decided on for a very custom ‘gator style strat. . The @fender AVii swamp ash body gets everything started from a solid foundation, one also built on the rock solid block of mahogany filling the trem cavity. A custom @wd_music_products_official pickguard with the controls pushed to the edge of the cavity, away from the range of play, houses a set of @dimarzioinc pickups - an Area ‘58, Area ‘67 and HS-2. The HS-2 is wired as a single coil in the circuit, but when the tone pot push/pull is engaged it acts as a full humbucker again. Controls are Master Volume/Boost Level/Master Tone P/P, with an On/Off switch for the boost. . Of course, it’s running the Alligator Boost circuit made with @adrpedals - but this strat also features the Up to 11 treble bleed circuit. Some serious @adrpedals tone shaping here! . The owner is running only an envelope filter through the OBEL, and wasn’t interested in cluttering the controls with an On/Off for the OBEL, so this loop remains on at all times. . While he didn’t want the full rosewood treatment of the OG ‘gator so the ash body could show through, he still wanted the original trem route to be obscured. This is the smallest footprint I could make with the rosewood & still cover the trem cavity. The @williect2020 tailpiece also sits on a rosewood riser, no larger than the footprint. . All brass was aged by me for a consistent appearance. Special notes on this Alligator - loaded with @dimarzioinc Area ‘58/Area ‘67/Area ‘61 single coils, the noiseless performance pairs well with the quick-change ready @fender locking tuners for a VERY gigable #jerrytone rig of your own! . The Alligator Boost circuit is housed in the empty trem spring cavity for easy trim-pot adjustment, with the 9v battery. No need to loosen the strings to change your battery! . The On/Off switch for the Alligator Boost is housed on the @farmpedals brass jack plate - reminiscent of the original Alembic units. . The wiring for this one is a little different, though - while you still have the 1M volume pot in the traditional location, and a 250k MASTER tone pot in the middle position, your outside knob (formerly the bridge tone) is now a gain level pot. The trim pot on the PCB governs the highest level of gain achieved, the pot on your pickup allows you to control the gain level in use. Keep it around 2 for a spicy kick in your solos, or crank it for amp pushing levels of gain & heat! .
