Celebrating Excellence! Congratulations to Estefan Cervantes who is graduating from Northeastern University with a degree in mechanical engineering! 🎉🎓 Estefan’s dedication, hard work, and passion have led him to this remarkable milestone. During his time in college, Estefan built a drone, built a data slicer for a company, and worked on creating a climate controlled box as his capstone project! He also completed 3 internships in his co-op program, and interned for companies: Bosch Thermotechnology, Sonos, and Amazon Robotics! Estefan shares, “These experiences have helped me know what it is to actually work as an engineer as well as grant me the opportunity to make connections at these large companies.” His advice to incoming college students? “I would say to not be afraid to talk to people, in class and at clubs. Why are the water safety skills we teach during swim lessons so important? The short answer is that every skill we teach plays a critical role in drowning prevention. Practicing these skills on a weekly basis is key, so that these skills become part of children's muscle memory. Depending on the water safety situation they might find themselves in, the goal is that they will instinctively know what to do. Learn to Swim with SAA Baltimore! We will be offering coaching for folks with some swim experience who want to do a 1-mile swim. Lessons will be every Tuesday and Wednesday from 6-7 PM starting on June 4th through September 4th at @copperminemeadowbrook. 🎓🎓 Congrats to Mario Jimenez Valencia on his graduation from the University of California, Merced!⁠ ⁠ Mario earned his bachelor’s degree in public health and is on his way to pursuing med school.⁠ ⁠ He’ll also continue leading the nonprofit he founded.⁠ ⁠ “It all started with a dream of giving back to the community in which I grew up as a kid in Mexico,” shared Mario, whose organization, Fundacion Dopamina, has supported nearly 700 people by providing food and toys as well as another 20 students by providing scholarships.⁠ ⁠ “Balancing school, work, and a nonprofit was definitely challenging, however, the satisfaction of accomplishing all my dreams helped me keep on working on it with even more satisfaction,” Mario shared.⁠ ⁠ 🌊 Mario also has Making Waves as a support system.⁠ ⁠ “The support that Making Waves gave me is remarkable and definitely something that I will remember for the rest of my life,” he said.⁠ ⁠ “Thanks to the scholarship, I didn’t have to worry about food, books, or housing for my whole time at UC Merced.”⁠ ⁠ One of Mario’s favorite parts of our Making Waves program was the coaching.⁠ ⁠ “Having the encouragement from my coach, Julie Kirk, was amazing.
