This item is probably left of field and a little different, a Luc Longley signed ‘The Last Dance’ 10 part documentary Blu-Ray set. When this came out on Netflix it caused quite an uproar with Aussie fans because there was no mention of the starting centre throughout the series, even though he was an integral piece to the Bulls 3-Peat run. I was a bit nervous asking the big fella to sign it but he graciously did. It’s a strange and controversial item but it’s what makes it even more interesting. It's all good having the ideas, it's great to sketch them, but nothing beats making them. I'm in a really amazing place with sculptures and artwork in general where the joy of making something, outweighs the joy of selling it. But I do love selling my artwork. As the NBA playoffs get under way this evening, I have a film recommendation, Netflix’s 10 part series, The Last Dance. It is about the Chicago Bulls, in its heyday with Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, the stars of the team and anyone who played with them and against them as they are All interviewed for this documentary. It is getting into the mindset of a successful basketball player, the psychological aspect of competing, accomplishing goals as a team. So good this film is; there were episodes I watched twice. On a personal note, I was a basketball nerd in the 1990’s. I collected photographs of the NBA games from newspaper articles, as I found it to be the only sport that captured interesting photos. Several months ago, as I decluttered my life, I came across all these cut out newspaper photos in a file and also some writing I did in my journals about the sport. In the year 1996, I wrote: “I love the game. I love the sport. I love these men and their incredible talent. Basketball to me, is somewhat artistic in the way they move. It could be said basketball takes on similarities of dancing, the energy of a ballet. Beautiful, Muscular, well defined strong men stretching and leaping for the ball. When they handle the ball, their movements are incredibly expressive, a physical and mental accomplishment. I like the way these men work as a team, the passing of the ball, with their legs, arms and torsos enthralled with each other, to get that ball into the net. It is such a mental skill as well as physical. I freaked when Michael Jordan jumped towards the net from so far. I freak when there are incredible passes to get that ball in the net. Basketball is an extremely inspiring game. Sports is life, basketball is life.” I then write in another entry, “Years ago, Jordan ran towards the net, leaped into the air, spreading his legs and lunging forward from a great distance. He slam dunked the ball into the net. I got so excited that I jumped from my ass, off from the couch, only to land on my feet.
