Are you overwhelmed? Sometimes when you bring your new little one, life can feel inundated with all of the different emotions. As you are trying to navigate your new normal as a mom, I would love to help you prepare for your newborn session. These first moments together can be memorable, and I want you to be able to be fully present in this short season.  If you’ve ever had a newborn session with Kelly Laramore Photography, you know that you will receive a personalized email from me prior to your session so you can feel completely ready.  Here are a couple of little tips and tricks:  First, give your baby a bath and lotion time the morning of your session. This allows baby plenty of awake time, and once you arrive at the studio, they’ll be nice and sleepy!  Second, feed baby before you head to the studio. This comes with some exceptions too! Remember that some babies are cluster feeding around this time. So you are welcome to feed at any time throughout your session. This is a stress-free experience! I have a question for you. Have you ever wondered why we include hair and makeup in our portrait sessions? Here’s a true confession. As moms, we often take a backseat, especially when it comes to self-care. Sound familiar? As a mom of six, I have been in your shoes. Many times. When it came time for my own family photos, I was always a mess trying to get everyone ready. I never had enough time for myself. In the backseat. In fact, with baby #3’s newborn session, I showed up to the studio in my pjs, slippers, no makeup, and my hair was a mess! I handed my baby to the photographer and frantically ran to the bathroom to try and get ready. And get this. With baby #4’s newborn session, I was up until 3 AM the morning of our session. I was desperate to find ANYTHING that would fit me. I ended up feeling like our session was ruined because I couldn’t fit into my clothes with my newly postpartum body. Because of these experiences, I knew I wanted to make things much easier for families that come to me. I want you to have a stress-free session, full of pampering, play, and plenty of sweet moments. I promise you won’t have to frantically get ready in a cramped bathroom. Here it is.  Somehow, someway, good news usually finds its way to people on Fridays. It may not be scientifically proven, but it sure feels this way.  I am not certain where you find yourself this Friday, but if you have a loved one who just gave birth, let me tell you how you can be their hero.  After coming home from the hospital with a newborn six different times, I can tell you exactly how to help a friend or family member with a new baby. Even the smallest gesture can make a difference in the experience parents will have during those first few weeks.  My number one suggestion is to start a Meal Train. Enlist the help of other friends, family, church members, or co-workers to help! You can take the lead and become the official organizer (again, the hero). It’s quite simple to create and has a huge impact. Food is completely necessary but often forgotten when you are sleep deprived or in the trenches of transition.  So show your love through food, and spread a little good news this Friday.  Do you know anyone who is expecting or just had a little one? Life will never be the same.  Now that you finally see those two little pink lines, your first major hurdle is complete. You are pregnant! Congratulations!  But now what?  Let’s brainstorm about what to do next.  Today we'll look at a few things to do when you find out you’re expecting.  First things first, take a deep breath and let this moment sink in. You are a mom! There are only a few life altering moments, and there’s something extra special about this one. You will remember this day the rest of your life…so relish in it!  Next, let’s find out THE date…the date that you will try not to obsess over for the next 9 months…the due date. You can use a due date calculator, but some find that they’re not actually accurate at all. Has that ever happened to you? After you tell your partner and the most important people in your life, call your OBGYN. Most new parents are surprised to find out that your OB doesn’t necessarily need to see you right away unless you have a medical condition that requires an immediate visit. This is such an exciting time, and I know it can be hard to wait.  Know that I will be here, cheering you on every step of the way. It can be tricky!  Most of us have been there. We welcome a new little one into our family…but we may have one (or more!) reluctant participants… Toddlers.  Some toddlers are carefree and gentle and excited to jump into family photos with their new little brother or sister. Others may be timid, shy, or jealous of their new sibling. It can be difficult to predict how your toddler will react (and usually impossible…they are toddlers after all!).  If their reaction is less than ideal during our time together, I can promise you this. It is just a phase, and it is definitely something that we can work around.I love getting creative! We will find the best ways to incorporate any toddler siblings in a way that makes them comfortable while keeping baby safe.  Here’s a little secret…we will focus on your toddler. Every memory counts. Unfortunately, time waits for no one…even adorable little babies…so let’s make each moment matter. To help you and your baby prepare for a successful baby milestone session, here are a couple of tips!  The day of our session, consider feeding your baby a meal or a snack before heading to the studio. A fed baby is a happy baby. We also have the most success when baby is well rested too. I understand that sleep might be rare these days, but if possible, schedule your session right after your baby’s nap…that’s when they are the happiest.  To ensure that everyone is happy and healthy, please contact me if your baby has been sick within 48 hours. We often have newborns in the studio, so we want to be mindful of the potential of passing on a virus to a newborn baby.  I can’t wait to experience the incredible milestones with you. Portrait sessions might not be Dad’s thing… He might just be doing it to help you out, create the memories down the road…but it doesn’t excite him. One might be, “When is the best time to do newborn photos?” I have the easiest answer for you!  Early. 😂 Let me give you some information that might be a little bit more helpful. At Kelly Laramore Photography, we have 3 different options for newborn sessions. The first is called a Fresh 48 Session (pssst…it’s one of my absolute FAVORITES!). Fresh 48 sessions take place during the first 48 hours after your baby’s birth. It’s so important to capture newborns at this stage because they grow and change so much! And this type of session is perfect for you if you want those first precious hours documented. This also might be a great fit if you want to capture older siblings or grandparents meeting Baby for the first time.  And that’s just option 1!
