I photographed this wonderful family in August last year over at Dunwich which already had me loving them, so it was genuinely an incredible privilege to be a part of their day. I love doing documentary portrait sessions with couples when they book with me as it always feels like I know them so much better when it comes round to the wedding day. This was actually one of the few times I’ve ever got slightly emotional from speeches. It’s not that I find that bit of the day dull or that I don’t much care, but they’re intended for people who really KNOW the couple. Genuinely so blessed by the people who book me. What are your thoughts on group photos at weddings? We're finding that couples question traditions more now and often people aren't bothered about having a cake cutting photo* and sometimes they're not too bothered about large group photos BUT they're mainly for the family such as parents or grandparents as they like this morning traditional style photo. It is important though to make sure that everyone is captured on the day as these are memories to look back on and will be passed down through generations. This doesn't have to be a huge post ceremony group photo though if you think it feels too much like a school class photo! But definitely having smaller group photos are lovely such as either side of the family and with your grooms people/ bridal party. *Don't get me wrong... I had such a great time playing for Hayley and Kyle’s wedding yesterday at @heatonhousefarm. Envelope Liners 🪶 When working with couples to create their wedding stationery, envelopes can sometimes be a bit of an after thought, but not for the couple I worked with to create these beauties. They wanted to include their love of farming and game birds in their stationery and their Saves the Dates to have an impact when their guests received them. So I designed this feather pattern envelope liner, using my original watercolour illustrations, that complemented the theme and paired them with a brown, kraft envelope for a rustic feel. I designed the final pattern digitally after scanning in my feathers, layering them over a sage green background to match the colour scheme of the wedding, before getting the professionally printed and hand finishing each envelope myself. It was a real privilege to play for Emma and Josh’s intimate wedding day yesterday at @staplefordpark. With only 15 guests attending, it was one of the smallest weddings I’ve played for some time - but I LOVED the close cosy vibe and it felt like the perfect setting for the piano, allowing me to really put a lot of expression and nuance into my playing. E&J’s celebrant-led ceremony was so lovely, and hearing @karenmulcahy.celebrant tell their story really helped set the context for their day and how much these two really mean to each other. Ceremony music included: Aisle song: All of Me - John Legend. Signing song: Flashlight - Jessie J. Exit song: Came Here For Love - Sigala. Due to a short signing section, I didn’t quite manage to squeeze in the second signing song, ‘I Could Get Used To This’, so put it into the reception set instead - along with many other fantastic songs of E&J’s choosing across numerous genres! The weather was just as eclectic as the songlist too - with beautiful sunshine, thunderstorms, and rainbows all in the mix! ☀️⚡️🌈 Despite the piano having to go inside/outside a couple of times during setup, I did eventually manage to play outdoors for the drinks reception which was so nice! I then moved inside for a lovely wedding breakfast set, complete with some very heartfelt speeches from friends and family.
