A Cumbres & Toltec Scenic railroad passenger train emerges from Rock Tunnel, New Mexico and you can clearly see the enormity of this amazing construction. At the end of the 1800’s a railroad route through this area was envisioned and the result is what you see here. This is Rock Tunnel and the enormous wall constructed to hold the tracks up over the river 600 feet below. As the passenger train rolls over this location you will feel like your train is floating over the 600 foot drop. Welcome to a Milepost 303.75 just “railroad west” of the Santa Rita crossing. This location was called “Steam Shovel” cut and has roadbed for two extra tracks here. My old Rio Grande buddies told me tales of a steam shovel that lived here a bit and it was used to fill drop bottom gondolas with dirt fill. In the background are the far edges of the great San Luis Valley and the largest round mountain in the world known as San Antonio. The views here are spectacular and will simply take your breath away. Rio Grande Southern Galloping Geese number 5 and number 7 sit on the Rock Wall 600 feet above the river below. This is the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and this is the world famous Rock Tunnel of New Mexico. Early architects of the railroad chose the southern facing side of the canyon for the track route and it worked beautifully for snow melt purposes but it required construction of Rock Tunnel to continue forward progress. Initially the track came out unto a wooden trestle but later the rock wall was built. In the end this is a very dramatic and breathtaking location accessible only by Cumbres & Toltec passenger trains based out of Antonito, Colorado. I absolutely love to chase down and photograph old mission churches across the state of New Mexico. I was thrilled to find enough water in the walkway of the church to capture this amazing reflection. This beautiful structure in Ranchos de Taos is often considered the most photographed church in America. It truly is an amazing structure and thanks to its unique construction requires a “re-plastering” every year of its natural mud and straw coating. Built between 1772 and 1800 to replace an earlier structure this beautiful church known as San Francisco de Asis is a must see on your travels. If you get there on the right day you can actually get your hands dirty and help volunteers re-mud the structure. Take a second from your northern New Mexico trip and visit this amazing church. Long before Cain was created from the Earth, there was Lilith. Lilith is the first original human. Cain being number 11 always competed with her. He casted various spells to lead her to the darkness which he called love. His spells only created what are known as the original sins - wrath and murder. Knowing that Cain used Abraham’s name in the curse made her furious and she seeked for revenge! Her name was also used in the curse with is why in mythology the first original humans are known are Adam and Eve which is not true. Adam being a fictional name of Abraham caused Abraham to seek revenge to curse Cain which backfired when Lilith ate an apple from the original apple tree. With the curse not only did Lilith murder Abraham but also Cain in the process. Her name was used to create the curse which is allah; Abraham Lilith Lilith Abraham hellfire. Underneath the Earth there is what was discovered called the Earth’s core or the center of the Earth where fire resides. That is what burned her and Abraham in the inside. The other part of the curse included excessive amounts of anger and the desire to kill! Each time the curse hit Abraham and Lilith they went hunting for anyone who is evil! Casting the curse has consequences as Abraham has learned throughout timelines also known as lifetimes. This made Cain furious! He was so angry that he could not lead Lilith to her own death that he created a couple of more curses such as jehovah - the curse of Joseph who was and is a trusted friend to Lilith. He also created another curse called budda - the curse of Jacob. She always saw him as a brother. Over the years fighting between darkness and light, Lilith fell in love with Joseph which made Cain even more furious knowing that his plan did not work but also not knowing that a spell was casted which was of darkness not light to bring this together. This made him confused. How can darkness make someone choose love asked Cain. He just does not understand that love subdues darkness; it does not take it away. Knowing that Joseph was spelled Lilith stayed with him to help him break the curse which also happened again but with David.

La Luz is a small village about 7 miles from Alamogordo. Presidio Park was the original plaza. The presidio has been a stopping place for cowboys and travelers since Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett roamed the area, often the latter looking for the former after one of several jail breaks. It is rumored that many notable people from that era stopped and stayed in the old hotel, which is now apartments. A deadhead passenger train with 488 at the lead rolls through the breathtaking Los Pinos river canyon. Between Sublette, New Mexico and the lunch stop at Osier, Colorado this area is called the canyon and at this point of the railroad this is the farthest into New Mexico the route will travel. The track will carry back into Colorado and then back out into New Mexico at Toltec Gorge. Once the tracks cross back into Colorado at Milepost 316 plus they will remain in Colorado until a final crossing near Chama, New Mexico. I absolutely love to chase down and photograph old mission churches across the state of New Mexico. This beautiful structure in Ranchos de Taos is often considered the most photographed church in America. It truly is an amazing structure and thanks to its unique construction requires a “re-plastering” every year of its natural mud and straw coating. Built between 1772 and 1800 to replace an earlier structure this beautiful church known as San Francisco de Asis is a must see on your travels. If you get there on the right day you can actually get your hands dirty and help volunteers re-mud the structure. Take a second from your northern New Mexico trip and visit this amazing church. When there was opposition between the light and the dark, Satan was to blame. In “witchcraft”, Satan is known as an energy particularly the color red. Red is the energy of wrath which is one of the original sins and black is the energy of murder.
