They design brands, exhibits, and publications, all with an objective focus on building impactful and inclusive experiences. They’ll be continuing to work with us to update the design of our spaces, our signage and wayfinding, and our exhibitions to make our Museum even more welcoming, inclusive, and accessible for you- our community. At our May 7th meeting, we heard a delegation from Ron Terpstra and Alice Puddington from the Almonte Civitan Club on their exciting concept for a new, fully accessible, barrier-free playground. The playground will be located on the Almonte Civitan property on Wolf Grove Road, next to the soccer fields. The Civitan Club anticipates building the playground to be a two-year project at a cost of $800K. Funding will come from grants, fundraising and donations. Their dream is to remove physical and social barriers so that all individuals can enjoy imaginative and meaningful play, side by side with their peers, families, and friends. ➡️ And the Almonte Civitan's first fundraiser is right around the corner! Tickets are on sale for their popular monthly community luncheon with proceeds going towards the accessible playground project all year. It was an honour to acknowledge the outstanding accomplishments Alex has achieved throughout his decades of service: first through his dedicated 31-year military career with the Canadian Forces, retiring as a Colonel, and then around the Mississippi Mills Council table. Over 26 years as an Almonte Ward Councillor, he represented the residents of Almonte and Mississippi Mills with a deep-rooted passion and tenacity. Alex has been an important champion of heritage and cultural preservation, fiscal responsibility, as well as economic development in our community. His involvement in projects such as the Almonte Riverwalk, the Mississippi Mills Business Park and the construction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, provide a fitting legacy of his time in office. After closing the book on his Municipal career in 2018, Alex has continued assisting the community as a dedicated and active volunteer, including involvement as President of the North Lanark Historical Society. These efforts have not gone unnoticed, and Mississippi Mills is all the richer for his extensive contributions. Congratulations again on this milestone occasion, and thank you for your dedication to our community.
