Here is one of my final projects from SCAD Winter 2023! I had to make an 18 x 24 illustration, printed and mounted onto a backboard. The main requirement was it had to be an indoor setting showing a 2 point perspective, and use a color pallet (similar to a previous pastel assignment). I used my dorm bathroom for the background and measured my height compared to the room to get an accurate height for the character. I did a monotone color test of the chosen thumbnail and later did a large sketch on paper. I then uploaded and finished it on procreate before printing. Her Portrait of Reflection, Acrylic on Canvas, 22” x 28”, 2024 The final project for my PNTG 206 course. I wanted to do a double portrait, and from there I came up with the concept of painting my reflection in a mirror. I’ve always been fascinated by mirrors, they show you who you are but it’s not exactly who you are, it’s a flipped image of yourself. I always remember staring at my reflection as a kid, imagining that the reflection there would suddenly move on its own, like it was an alternate dimension version of myself. I feel like this fantasy bleeds into the piece, and I wanted to paint my hand touching my reflection’s hand to show that those two worlds are always connected. It’s been a wonderful class and I’ve had the upmost pleasure of being taught by the lovely @tiffanitaylorart!! I can’t wait to see where my art takes me over the summer. National Heat Awareness Day – May 31, 2024 This day was created at the start of the hotter days of the year to alert workers, employers, and the public at large about the (preventable) health dangers related to heat, in order to reduce the overall rate of illnesses and deaths caused by it. This day was specially founded as a reminder that many outdoor activities are a risk for serious heat-induced conditions like heat exhaustion, dehydration, heatstroke, and even death. We bring you tips about prevention. BEATING THE HEAT THIS SUMMER Stay hydrated The manifold benefits of drinking enough water and fluids cannot be stressed enough. According to the CDC working or playing in the heat, requires drinking 1 cup (8 ounces) of water every 15–20 minutes. This translates to ¾–1 quart (24–32 ounces) per hour. Keep your fashion light and breezy Wear loose-fitting and lightweight clothing, made with breathable fabrics like cotton. And light colors like white and pastels. Slather on sunscreen The importance of sunscreen as protection against the sun is never going to get old. Avoid going outdoors in peak times Avoid stepping out into the sun during its peak hours, especially without protection. Those times are 11:30 am to 3:30 pm Limit your activity Leave the intense workouts for early mornings or nights, and take it easy during the midday heat. I still want you to go out there! I miss the southern cosmos and the zinnias, oh the zinnias 🫶 3D FINAL DONE !!! This is my favorite piece I’ve ever done. Forget ap, forget portraits of Louis; embroidered clairo lyrics have a special place in my heart. • I started this piece before knowing her new album/single was going to drop soon so it really is perfect timing (if u haven’t listened to it it’s so so good and I need the new album now !!) Sling has such a special place in my heart since that was the first album of hers I listened to. I knew her from some of her other popular songs, but didn’t start really listening until a couple years ago and she’s quickly turned into my favorite artist of all time. Her songs are written in familiarity and relatability that I find so endearing and comforting. I especially love zinnias off of her album “sling”. I initially thought the lyric (posted above) meant that she missed the south since she’s from Atlanta (I moved from Texas to South Carolina which is when I discovered her music and especially related to that lyric since I missed home so much), but after digging a little deeper for this project in particular, I found an article diving into the meaning of the lyrics of the song. The lyric is likening her brother to a southern cosmo and herself to a zinnia, and how she misses how their relationship once was. I can especially relate to that since I also miss how my relationship once was with my older sister. Additionally, the rest of the song is about possible lifestyles and how Claire sometimes envisions herself as a mother instead of an artist. I have thoughts of self doubt and anxiety about going into the arts with me dreaming of becoming a graphic designer and eventually a full time artist, but this song gives me so much comfort knowing that a successful artist like Clairo thinks the exact same way.
