The King started his visit to Namibia with a meeting with President Nangolo Mbumba at the Presidential Palace in Windhoek. This was followed by a meeting between the Belgian and Namibian delegations. Energy transition and green hydrogen projects are at the centre of their discussions. These projects aim to combat desertification and reverse climate change. HISA (Hope Initiative Southern Africa) is a Namibian NGO founded in 2013 to support women and children in slums, especially in the fight against HIV/AIDS. It is now supported by the European Union and carries out a wide range of activities promoting (economic) empowerment of families, health, hygiene and sanitation, education and food security. The King visited the centre and attended two thematic sessions organised for local people: one on raising awareness of climate change and the other on financial education. Poor eating habits and lack of physical activity are public health problems in many countries. In Belgium, 1 in 2 adults is overweight and 1 in 5 is obese. Within the European Union, several countries are looking at ways of encouraging people to adopt healthier eating habits. They also have a say in the museum's cultural programming and have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with its building, collections and operations. 25 young people support this project on a daily basis. Every year, the Queen Mathilde Fund supports dozens of projects by and for young people.
