Fascinated by Los Angeles history, in which his family has played a prominent part since arrival from Ohio in 1876, Chandler later determined to explore the people and forces that had created the explosive California dreamscape. “I set out to identify the rare individuals in Southern California who have had the confidence and imagination to pursue their dreams—and who achieved inspiring, original and lasting results.” Photographing living persons as well as reaching into the archives for those no longer with us, Chandler sought to capture the essence of these creative souls. The photographs in our postings are featured in Chandler’s book “Dreamers in Dream City”, Angel City Press, Los Angeles. 🍷1980 TOYOTA COROLLA “TOUCH OF WINE II” currently displayed in our lobby🍷 At age 17, Albert De Alba Sr. bought this Toyota Corolla and, using skills he acquired working for his father, Mario Sr., transformed the Japanese economy car into “Touch of Wine.” The car was featured in Lowrider magazine in 1992. De Alba then spent 18 months revamping the vehicle. His vision included cutting off the roof and adding suicide doors, a reverse-tilt hood, molded-in BMW bumpers, and custom ground effects. ⭐️Legends of the Vault: 1946 Kurtis-Miller Ross Page Special⭐️ The Ross Page Special was one of the few newly designed and built cars to race in the first Indy 500 after World War II. Manufactured by Frank Kurtis, it features a rear faring made of Plexiglas, a novelty for the day. The special is powered by a 183 cubic-inch Offenhauser engine for which former Miller engineer Leon Duray designed a large Roots-type supercharger. The car raced unsuccessfully in 1946, 1947, and 1948 then withdrawn from Indy competition.
