I do a lot of gilding and am currently working on a powder room ceiling. Do you know how to order imitation and real leaf? I am using imitation on this project. Nazionale Imitation gold from Italy. Leaf comes in several forms, loose leaf, patent and in rolls. I ordered both patent and loose leaf for this project. Patent leaf is adhered to a sheet of paper and makes it easier to handle for a ceiling. If you look at the size of both boxes, each contain 500 sheets , but the patent leaf box is much thicker than the loose leaf due to 500 extra sheets of paper for the patent. Each box shows the number of leaves in each box (500 for these) and the color of the leaf is on the bottom right corner(2 1/2), I am able to interchange the loose leaf and patent since the colors are the same. What about those insignias and stamped numbers and letters? The company’s symbol is stamped in the outer pink wrapper of each bundle. The other letters and numbers denote the worker id and the batch number for quality control. Thanks to @gildedplanet for their knowledge and variety of gilding products. Thanks also to @painted_studio for offering #whitsonsuniversallacquer to seal everything once finished. For your information, I used the 21/2 imitation gold and then glazed with #modernmastersmetallics Olympic Gold and sealed then with the universal lacquer. These three different rooms have three different types of coffered construction, all in the same home. They also all feature metallics, but in slightly different ways. This little desk should have been an easy paint job, but the easy ones rarely are easy, right?! My sweet client wanted to glam up this desk with metallic paint. I don’t take many customs, but she had me at metallic. 😅 I’ve never painted with metallic before so I thought that would be fun. Her ex refinished it a few years ago and she was concerned it was too bad to be fixed. Well, there were tiny bubbles in the topcoat…over the entire piece. That required a more detailed sand job. I assured her we would make it pretty again! After a thorough sanding, I primed it with Bin Shellac. The metallic paint was not beginner friendly. I tried to spray it, but it was SO thick. I tried another sprayer - nope. I settled on applying it with a paint brush and smoothing it out with a thin nap roller. That was the winner. The metallic finish is luminous and rather pearlescent. Such a lovely finish. I sealed it with their clear coat so it wouldn’t cloudy the finish. The new knobs my client choose topped it off and I think we gave it a new lease on life. Stencil accent wall - #tuesdaythrowback This stunner stencil wall in my first home- my neighbor helped me with (because stencil wall diy’s are one tough cookie!) My neighbor used this stencil in her entry & I fell in love with it when I saw it! She was kind enough to let me borrow it & help me! So traditionally, stencil accent walls are done with the wall being a low luster paint finish (like a matte or eggshell with the stencil being done in the same paint color - but in a high gloss finish. it stands out but not too much offering a beautiful, subtle contrast.) That is not what we did here… My walls were already painted in a pearl finish, so I would have not been able to achieve that look. Instead, (since my previous home was rustic glam style), I opted to use a silver metallic paint which helped me achieve the luster look I was going for.
