2019 🍀 The fourth year of Happy Place Interiors In hindsight, 2019 was a lucky year for me and Happy Place Interiors. 🍀 It is also the year of one of my favorite before and after photos. This bedroom for my client, and now dear friend. She was miserable in her home, having bought it sight unseen. We met and I helped her through her remodeling and then decorated it. 2018 The Third Year of Happy Place Interiors 🤗 If three time’s a charm, this year was extremely charming! And it was another big year for Happy Place. I became President of RESA (Real Estate Staging Association) Minneapolis and I was taking on bigger design projects. One design project of 2018 stands out to me and is still so close in my heart. I met with Ben and @cat_trapskin in 2017 to kick off the project, but worked on it in 2018. They were a young couple with two young kids in South Minneapolis. They hired me to decorate their home and turn it into an adult space. I’ll never forget when they walked in the door for their “big reveal” — Catherine had tears streaming down her face. So of course, I did too. Unbeknownst to me, the watercolor portrait of a beautiful woman I put on a console table (in which you can see right when you walk in) was her mother who had passed. Between seeing the portrait and their home finally being a true reflection of themselves, they were just in awe and in tears. My heart was so full. To be able to give this feeling of joy to other people is simply amazing. They were amazing! 🤤💖 This home was built in 1957 and had the cleanest appliances I have ever seen, and I have looked at a lot of properties. 👀🫣 - The insides of the oven and refrigerator were blue and they looked absolutely brand new. 😯✨ I hated replacing them, but I knew that renters want to see brand new, stainless steel appliances.🤷🏼♀️ They would have looked at the exterior of the original appliances and walked out of the house.😔 - 🤔🧱 Appliance specs have changed significantly, so finding a wall oven that would fit the space was difficult and expensive, but I found one! 😮💨 We also rebuilt the cabinet doors above the cooktop to accommodate an over-the-range microwave instead of just a hood, and removed the “decorative” piece along the ceiling above the sink.👷🏼♀️🪜🔨 -✅✅✅🪄With new appliances, paint, and hardware, the kitchen update was complete. 🎉🙌🏼I still have plans to rip out a wall, move the refrigerator and replace the cabinets and countertops, but that is a project for down the road. 📋🗓🤞🏼 - After painting the walls and cabinets, I felt like the kitchen/dining space still looked meh. 💡🤔I decided to take a chance and paint all of the trim navy blue (including the original windows).
