Lake district. I don't suppose that "Derwent Water" looks that different now. Anyway here it is 1½ centuries ago. About 1865 or so. Around the time he moved there. This is by Edward Tucker Sr.(c.1816-1898). Originally from London. Lived London, Bristol, Brighton, settling in Lakes, 1865. Painted in Austria, Italy, France, best known as a Lakeland painter. Married Julia Maile, also an artist. Five sons, all trained artists. Edward junior, used “Arden” surname; Alfred used "Maile"; Hubert "Coutts"; Frederick, & Arthur. Many errors in the reference books. I think that Edward was born a decade earlier (1816 not 1825) and died a decade earlier (1898 not 1909) than most of the established sources suggest. Some confusion around edward jr. Who probably died 1910. Shepherd's biography of second son, Alfred, ( who incidentally became a Bishop in Africa) lends support to the newer information. "Tucker of Uganda" is an interesting read. So this large watercolour is ready to hang in conservation mountings and gilded modern frame. The reflections in the glass are just that. £285.
