Planes Trains and Automobiles A Chicago advertising man must struggle to travel home from New York for Thanksgiving, with a lovable oaf of a shower-curtain-ring salesman as his only companion. Starring - Steve Martin, John Candy, Laila Robins, Michael McKean, Kevin Bacon, Dylan Baker, Carol Joy. I have always heard about this one and how iconic it is. So i finally decided last night to watch it for the first time. I really loved it and I have to say after finishing it i understood why it is so loved. I believe the major reasons why are because of firstly how funny it is, but also how genuine it is. As the characters have real depth to them and develop over the movie making the ending have real weight because you have been on this journey with Neal (Martin) and Del (Candy). I really liked that it really shows you the other side of a person. As we see Neal is stressed due to travel issues and Del is an overly happy go lucky guy who grates on him. But it flips the script on what could be a comic relief character in Del, with a great monologue scene about why he is the way he is and why he won't change. Honestly it will hit you hard because of how authentically John Candy delivers it. But comedically it just nails it too, there is never a lull where you are waiting for something outrageous to happen because there is so much going on and Del's sleep routine scene had me in tears of laughter because of how obnoxious it was. Then the 'Mess Around' car scene is amazing. Honestly though, its a comedy that makes you laugh, but deeper than that, it is a movie that really shows you the neccessity behind human connection and not judging people by first impressions. You will be very up and down emotionally over the course of the film, but by the end you will as i did, be smiling!. Standouts - John Candy and Steve Martin were brilliant, they both played such different characters with Steve playing the straight man to John's wild character so brilliantly. Bottom line, it was a comedy with tons of heart and two characters that you can easily see yourself in as we all are either a Del or a Neal!. Watch on Paramount+. What did you think of the Movie?

Most online sources will tell you that when John Candy tells Kevin Costner that he’s ’as crazy as his Mumma,’ that it was filmed at Antoines, it wasn’t. It was filmed here at The Sazerac Bar in The Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. Candy took this role very seriously as he wanted to prove he was more than a comedic actor. Hence he was nervous and sweating profusely during this scene. JFK is a masterpiece, a very unnerving film that gets under my skin in more ways than one. Waiting on hold to make an appointment with the dentist, made me think of this crazy horror comedy musical from 1986 🪴 It was an adaptation of the 1982 off-Broadway musical of the same name by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, which is itself an adaptation of the 1960 movie 🎥 The 86 version was directed by the talented Frank Oz. It centers on a floral shop worker who discovers a sentient carnivorous plant that feeds on human blood, and stars among other Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, and the voice of Levi Stubbs known as the Four Tops’ lead singer, as the plant 🪴 aka the mean green mother from outer space 😆 The film also features special appearances by Jim Belushi, John Candy, Christopher Guest, and Bill Murray. It was produced by David Geffen. You don’t necessarily have to be a musical fan to see this movie, I’m not, but if you’re a fan of comedy and great music 🎶 go find it somewhere 🍿

I imagine this will always be my favorite film. It’s required family viewing every year around Christmas. Seems like no matter where I roam in life I always feel like some weird amalgamation of these two guys. Maybe a bit more Del in me tbh. There is a great moment in the new @stevemartinreally doc where he reminisces emotionally about what went into this movie. You realize he feels this movie the same way we do. The ending of this movie always shoots an arrow through me but leaves me feeling better in a cathartic way. Maybe that’s the #johnhughes magic. The soft lighting and images of the “perfect” American thanksgiving can’t help but bring the contrast between the haves and have nots into sharp relief. It’s a subtle social comment introduced into what isn’t exactly a feel good movie that still leaves you feeling good. #plainstrainsandautomobiles #johncandy

This was a recommendation from @randigoldberg2 I had never seen this movie before but i am a big fan of John Candy and have seen him in a few other films. So i was excited going into this one. Honestly i really enjoyed it. It was such a heartwarming story, and as the title suggests, is about two lonely people who discover each other and the fact that they need not be lonely anymore. It was honestly so sweet to see the romance unfurl, just because both characters were unexperienced in dating and for the fact that you had the very extroverted Danny (Candy) and the very introverted Theresa (Sheedy). But what gives this movie it's edge and what will definitely make you feel the frustration is Danny's overbearing mother. She always has an opinion and is very forthright, even to the point it's hurtful. But i just loved watching these two lonely souls connect and as you watch you'll feel the same way i did in hoping the two of them make it as it is so clear they are meant for each other!. You don't often see the Extrovert vs Introvert personalities as well portrayed as they were here. It was adorable seeing the introverted Theresa slowly come out of her shell because of the easygoing nature of Danny and his larger than life persona. Standouts - John Candy was so good as Danny. His natural charm came across well in the role and it was such fun seeing Danny and Theresa's romance blossom. Bottom line, a film i really enjoyed, i always think with John Candy he was such a charming and genuine guy and you could feel that in his performance here and really any of his movie performances.
