Although I technically learned to sew in my high school home economics class (a dismal fail- story for another day), I truly learned to sew from the @berrypatchfabrics in Ft Worth 29 years ago. First Stayce taught me to smock & then how to really sew. Once upon a time there were many locally owned fabric stores and now they are rarer and rarer. I have quite a stash of patterns and fabric (one “might” call it hoarding), but I still treasure this local store for support & supplies. We are back from our journey to the other side of the planet! It was truly an eye-opening experience just to live in our daughter's world for 9 days. In case I haven't explained it previously, she is serving for Wycliffe at a christian school in Indonesia teaching english. She raises her own funds to do this and I was amazed that the entire staff is completely volunteer. The only people that receive a paycheck are the native people employed to help out on the campus. If you want to know more about Jennifer's mission and how you might be able to contribute, I will have a link posted in my bio above. Anyway, I am hoping to get back into some more clothing construction for this spring and summer but I am disappointed in my ability to produce good pictures of my products due to my current situation. Well fitted kids clothes are beautiful. But on the other side, can’t help myself to wish they will be wore for a long time😆 So I love growth tucks and a sash. Here’s my first self smocked Liberty dress for the first daughter’s 4th birthday in 2019. Pattern is @childrenscornerstore Lee. Fabric is @libertyfabricsjapan #libertymargaretannie . We had a lovely Easter Sunday full of faith and family. I wanted to share my latest project for Gus. Also, sharp eyes may notice a hint of an upcoming surprise! I have several more projects in the works. This was a fun project. I am the fourth generation of women in my family to smock and sew heirloom clothing. When my grandmother died I inherited many of her patterns and books. This bubble was sewn using one of those patterns. A vintage Children’s Corner pattern called baby bubbles. It was fun to sew but challenging as we had to gather the pleats by hand! I am pleased with how beautifully it turned out. The pattern is Baby Bubbles by Children’s Corner patterns. Sewn using handkerchief linen from Children’s Corner. The lace is tea dyed lace that I inherited from my grandmothers collection. I made it almost exactly like the pattern example with blue fabric and white on white embroidery. Some detail shots of Little Sister’s @childrenscornerstore Mary Alice. It can be found in the Handsewing III pattern, but I sewed almost all of this on a machine and not by hand 😉 I added some decorative hemstitches to either side of the lace insert down the yoke with a wing needle using a blanket stitch on my machine (and tear away stabilizer underneath). For the embroidery, I used some designs from @oldfashionedbabybyjeannieb Heirloom Embroidery book. Have you ever Smocked clothing before? I find that if you don’t continue to practice the skill you get a bit rusty! I started this last year but wedding plans took over my focus. I did go back to the basics with this pattern and really enjoyed the process I worked on it a little at a time and I will admit had to take out and redo but I was determined to do it right! I’m now looking forward to my next project a @smockingwithfrancesmjones she has really cute patterns and I’m thankful to her for helping me with pleating so I could complete and move on to princess crown design. My last outfit make of 2023 was an @childrenscornerpatterns Johnny. I made both the long romper and the shirt. But I substituted the CCP Charlie long sleeve. It is wonderful that you can interchange any of the CCP sleeve and collar pattern pieces! I made this outfit for my friend’s little boy that I made all the preemie outfits for last Spring. He’s doing great! I made him the 12 month size even though he was only 8 months at Christmas! As you can see in the last picture, he is a chubby baby now! The brown featherweight corduroy and the brown gingham are both from my stash. I’m glad to be using it up slowly! I also made him a bandana bib, which is just barely visible in the first picture. Мне еще очень нравится, как в США мамочки наряжают деток на Пасху. Я это переняла у них и наряжаю своих 🤍⠀ ⠀ 🕊️ Ну и главное, мне безумно нравится сам процесс! Это такой особый кайф сначала перебирать мягкий хлопок, кружево, а потом смотреть, как это все превращается во что-то очень нежное и трогательное..⠀ ⠀ Я думаю, в России у меня бы не было проблем раскрутить это дело. Сейчас я не в России, но готова отправить заказ почтой куда угодно. Не стоит бояться почты! Я вижу, девочки отправляют и отсюда, и из Сербии, из Германии! A little throw back to the sunnier days when I pattern tested for @childrenscornerstore This is the new Penny pattern which is available for you to purchase from Saturday 24th February. This was my first pattern test for children’s corner and I was not disappointed! There were new techniques and skills I learned through this sew like the adorable piped bodice and collar. The Cornerstitch blog, on the stores website, had an adaptation using side ties instead of a bow on the back. That sounded car seat friendly to me… so YES!
