UAE health authorities have stamped out a total of 409 sites where dengue-causing mosquitoes were found, a senior government official said on Wednesday. Concerns over dengue fever had emerged after the heaviest rain on record flooded several UAE neighbourhoods, creating ponds of stagnant water that could easily become mosquito breeding sites. Dengue fever is a viral infection that is transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Several measures have been taken to fight dengue fever in the UAE, said Abdul Rahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, as the matter was taken up in a Federal National Council (FNC) session on Wednesday. #uae #healthauthorities #stampedout #409sites #degue #mosquitos #denguefever #heaviestrain #recordrainfall #flooded #stagnantwater #breeding #burjdiary #burjdiaryfamily

A British expatriate has filed a civil lawsuit demanding the tech giant disclose the identity of an AirTag owner, following allegations that his ex-wife used the device to secretly track his location. The case was filed after the man discovered the device hidden in his child’s toy, leading to a criminal report against the woman for breaching privacy. The 47-year-old man said in court records that he detected an Apple AirTag concealed inside a teddy bear which his Belarusian ex-wife, 41, gave their daughters. A restored Falaj (irrigation) system is now helping farmers in Bithnah to grow better crops using lesser amount of water. The ancient Falaj, which was ruined and unused, was restored by nonprofit organisation Emirates Nature-WWF, through a project sponsored by Etihad Rail. “The Falaj was broken when we first came to the area,” said Altaf Habib, Projects Manager at Emirates Nature-WWF. “When we attended the local majlis, they requested us to restore it. Today, it is irrigating eight farms in the area.” The system is designed in such a way that no external forces are required for it to operate. “Water flows because of the force of gravity,” he said. “This means no machines are needed to pump water. This means it is sustainable and does not require any power sources. During the harsh summer months, we have to resort to pumping water from a nearby well and transporting it to a tank that then travels through the Falaj pipes.” #uae #Bithnah #falaj #irrigationsystem #bettercrops #water #organization #sponsored #EtihadRail #EmiratesNature #WWF #LocalMajlis #restored #forceofgravity #pumpwater #burjdiary #burjdiaryfamily

Nearly a month has passed since the record breaking rainfall on April 16, which left thousands of cars damaged. Yet, these vehicles remain idle in garages or parking lots due to extensive repair timelines or lack of insurance claim approval. According to insurance firms, the complexity of the vehicle’s make/model, especially the availability of spare parts and the magnitude of the damage, are the two most critical factors that might contribute to turnaround time. “In some cases, the approval from the other insurance company (faulty party) might take time to come (in case of multi-vehicle involvement). At the present stage, the insurance companies and garages are overwhelmed with repair cases due to a large number of vehicles that needs to be attended to at the same time. There is a capacity constraint. Over a passage of few weeks this bottleneck will start to ease out,” said Dev Maitra, managing director of Savington International Insurance Brokers. #uae #stillwaiting #insuranceclaim #recordbreaking #rainfall #carsdamaged #parkinglots #extensiverepair #claimapproval #complexity #spareparts #magnitude #burjdiary #burjdiaryfamily

Authorities in Fujairah have captured a wild cat that was spotted on the loose in a residential area located near the mountains. As clips of the cat began going viral on Monday, specialised teams from the Fujairah Environment Authority immediately moved to identify the location of the wild cat. The Director of the Fujairah Environment Agency, Aseela Moalla, said that a UAE citizen was identified as the owner of the animal. The citizen cooperated with authorities, handing over the wild cat and acknowledging his ignorance about whether it was legal to own such an animal. A hefty fine has been levied on the owner. While the authority did not reveal the exact amount, according to UAE law the penalty for owning a dangerous animal without registration begins at Dh10,000 and could go up to Dh500,000. #uae #fujairah #wildcat #ontheloose #authorities #residentialarea #FEA #AseelaMoalla #acknowledging #heftyfine #leived #UAELaw #burjdiary #burjdiaryfamily

Adolescents experiencing untreated mental health challenges may experience feelings of guilt related to different issues, prompting them to run away from home, say experts. This advice follows amidst numerous instances of teenagers leaving home in the UAE, with most returning safely except for the recent case of the unfortunate death of a 17 year old. While children may be running from something, they could also be running into something, explained experts in wellness and medicine. It’s crucial to acknowledge that running away can lead to negative outcomes as well. Therefore, healthcare professionals reiterate that parents must try to create an atmosphere of “acceptance at home”. It's crucial to prioritize listening to children when they're speaking, rather than engaging in television watching or internet surfing. #uae #adolescents #mentalhealth #runaway #leavinghome #unfortunatedeath #wellness #medicine #crucial #acknowledge #negativeoutcomes #healthcare #reiterate #prioritize #burjdiary #burjdiaryfamily

A British tourist, who was unable to move owing to severe exhaustion and high blood pressure while hiking on the Hatta mountains, was rescued by Dubai Police's Air Wing and the Brave Squad. The operation was prompted by an emergency alert that the police received. The tourist was in urgent need of evacuation owing to the challenging terrain, and a descent on foot would have taken him around four hours, the police said. Pilot Colonel Ali Al Muhairi, Director of the Dubai Police Air Wing Centre, said they dispatched a helicopter equipped with a medical team after receiving the alert from Dubai Police's Brave Squad in Hatta. "Despite the rugged mountain terrain, the helicopter managed to reach the tourist after being provided with precise coordinates by the Brave Squad using advanced aerial navigation systems," Al Muhairi said. #uae #dubai #britishtourist #severeexhaustion #bloodpressure #hattamountains #dubaipolice #airwing #bravesquad #challengingterrain #ruggedmountain #coordinates #navigation #burjdiary #burjdiaryfamily

Large swathes of the deserts in the UAE have turned into lush green landscapes following a period of higher than usual rainfall over the past couple of weeks. Explorers in the country have witnessed several areas carpeted in greenery, including parts of the Sharjah Kalba road around Shawka and Masafi Dibba. “I have been seeing it getting greener for a while since we began getting more rain,” said explorer and rain chaser Sajjad. “However, this year the greenery is even more after the record-breaking rainfall.” The expat, who has been living in Dubai for over a decade, said that this is the first time he had seen the country so green. “I have travelled all over the UAE chasing rain and I have seen my fair share of greenery,” he said. “However, this is the first time I have seen such extensive parts of the country covered in a blanket of green. UAE residents are likely to see more rains over the next few days as the country transitions into the summer season, a weather expert said. The showers, however, are expected to be concentrated in the southern and western regions of the country. With the UAE receiving the heaviest rainfall on record on April 16, followed by a bout of rain and hail on May 2 to 3, the expert said the country is unlikely to see any significant weather events in the near future. “Chances of rain are particularly high on Sunday, May 5, followed by Monday and Tuesday. There is a weak chance of rainfall in Sharjah and Dubai. The low pressure is moving outside the country now,” said Dr Ahmed Habib, a weather specialist at the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). “It will be fair to partly cloudy at times within the internal parts of the UAE in the southern region, and the coastal region in the western part of the country will witness rainfall. The number of fatalities on UAE roads rose by 3% last year compared to 2022, with road safety experts blaming the increase in the accidents primarily on the "misbehaviour of road users." The recently uploaded ‘open data’ on road safety statistics for 2023 by the Ministry of Interior (MOI) showed that there were 352 road fatalities across the country in 2023. This year's data showed a 3 per cent increase over the 343 deaths registered in 2022, but an 8 per cent decrease over the 381 fatalities recorded in 2021. “The UAE continues its focused journey to reducing the number of fatalities on our roads,” Thomas Edelmann, founder and managing director of Road Safety UAE. #uae #fatalities #roadsafety #misbehavior #roadusers #statistics #MOI #deathsregistered #decrease #ThomasEdelmann #burjdiary #burjdiaryfamily

Authorities in Dubai have detailed the procedures motorists must follow if they get caught on flooded roads or their vehicles break down amid unstable weather conditions. This came as heavy rains lashed the UAE on Thursday – two weeks after record showers left some areas flooded. Many vehicles were stuck on flooded streets then, with motorists forced to abandon them. If you are unable to ride through flooded roads and your only option is to take an alternative route against the flow of traffic, you need to contact the Dubai Police at 999 immediately. If your car breaks down on a road, “safely pull over to the roadside or, if you are unable to do that, activate your hazard lights to alert other drivers”, the Government of Dubai Media Office said in an advisory prepared by multiple local authorities. “Place a warning triangle 50 metres behind the vehicle and move to a safe roadside location. During the severe weather on April 15 and 16, several UAE residents lost their vehicle number plates. As normalcy returned following roadblocks and waterlogging, many motorists found themselves with a pressing question: Can those who lost their number plates in Dubai temporarily use their vehicles? Motorists are permitted to utilise their vehicles "only when they go to the RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) to collect a new car plate."Authorities clarified vehicle owners must first apply for a "To Whom It May Concern" certificate, which can be done online via Dubai Police website. Residents who have Dubai-registered vehicles damaged due to floods and other natural disasters, no longer need to bring their cars to the police station to obtain a ‘To Whom It May Concern’ certificate. All they have to do is simply send a photo of the damaged vehicle. The Abu Dhabi Police on Thursday reiterated a warning for reckless drivers: Do not overtake on the road shoulder. This time, however, the advisory came in the form of a CGI animation typically used in movies. The road shoulder is reserved for vehicle emergencies. It also serves as the fast lane for ambulances and authorities rushing to save lives at accident sites, the police said. Using it for overtaking is a serious offence that could lead to major collisions and endanger people's lives. In the video, the Abu Dhabi Police showed a red 4WD weaving in and out of traffic — overtaking one vehicle after another. Then, at one point, while trying to overtake a white SUV, it blindly swerved to the hard shoulder — not noticing the car parked on the lane with its hazard lights on, indicating some trouble. #uae #abudhabi #abudhabipolice #reiterated #warning #recklessdrivers #CGIanimation #vehicleemergencies #burjdiary #burjdiaryfamily

A full moon also known as the pink moon will be visible in the UAE and other parts of the world until Thursday, having first appeared in the skies on Tuesday. With each day, it will become less visible as the Moon gets closer to the third quarter phase, during which it is only a third of the size compared to when fully illuminated. The full moon in April is called the pink moon, US space agency Nasa says. The Moon is not really pink during this celestial event. It is called that because it was when a plant known as herb moss pink would bloom in the 1930s. “The Maine Farmers' Almanac began publishing ‘Indian’ names for full moons in the 1930s and these names are now widely known and used,” Nasa says. #uae #dubai #abudhabi #april #fullmoon #pinkmoon #herbmosspink #bloom #mainefarmers #almanac #burjdiary #burjdiaryfamily
