Correggio's Io in the Night Watch. The chap on the top left has been used as an example many times by scholars for explaining Rembrandt's technique of perspective as he is blurry which never made sense as others at that distance have great clarity. It's not as if he's many metres behind. No he is blurry because his character plays jupiter as a cloud. The deer in the embroidery was said to be the militia emblem when in fact its the deer drinking water in io For the record it was the lost mutilated Io seen not the Vienna model in the examples. I feel that if Antonio Allegri Da Correggio would have been duly studied more and correctly by the art sector it would of been worked out long before! Why had he been passed into obscurity in the last century? The true events of his mythologicals are complex but not for today's generation. Time to get it right! Cannot wait to bring this artist back into the limelight! He breathes life into his works by applying a particular texture to mundane figures, often articulated around almost ridiculous postures, which challenge anyone who comes to observe them to smile. A consumerist society nourished by a capitalist scheme is always depicted therein, dialogue with creatures that take possession of social codes. Frank Paul articulates his work between humour and some kind of loneliness materialized by the wenght the individual must carry by himself. But also, subtly embedded well-known brands, which nonetheless depend on a brutality revealing the body. Encaustic art is a painting technique that involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The hot wax is then applied to a surface, usually wood, although other materials can be used as well. The wax can be manipulated with brushes or other tools while it's hot, allowing for a range of textures and effects. It's an ancient technique that has seen a resurgence in contemporary art due to its unique properties and versatility. Now I'm rediscovering encaustic art after years, thanks to my university days! There's something mesmerizing about the waxy, milky textures achieved through layering with this material. This piece titled, "Summer Honey Sunrise" encapsulates Maltese summers. Inspired by the delicate beauty of thyme, one of the few plants resilient enough to survive amidst the scorching heat, this artwork is a homage to nature's resilience and the sweetness it yields even in the harshest conditions. By preserving thyme within layers of beeswax, the piece captures a moment of hazy summer morning beauty. Through the tactile experience of texture and scent, "Summer Honey Sunrise" invites viewers to immerse themselves in the sensory tapestry of the Maltese landscape, where the air is filled with the intoxicating aroma of wild herbs and the promise of golden honey.
