Though I have never even heard of this place until today. It broke my heart to know that this lovely legacy of 70+ years would be destroyed. This is such sad news 😢 The Palatine Park District has decided to close down @palatinestables, after 70+ years of operations. From what I can tell, there are some conflicting reasonings as to why they are shutting down, but what cannot be debated, is how this decision will put 60+ horses who reside there at risk, and the families who ride there without a community home. My daughter is a rider, and although she rides at a different barn, we know what it's like to be part of an equestrian family and I can't even imagine what it would be like if our barn had to close down. July 2007, at 14 years old, I started my first real job- a groom for the school horses. I always looked forward to my shifts, even on the real hot or cold days. I couldn't wait to spend the day in my favorite place. At the time, I had been riding at the Palatine Stables for about 5 years and was volunteering with the pony rides and birthday parties around the same amount of time. Every so often I would also volunteer with the NWSRA group that came in. What 8/9 year old would give up their free time like that? Ones that are horse crazy, that's who. Those who find happiness around these beautiful creatures. Palatine Stables is a great place to escape the real world. A place to get some exercise whether it be taking care of a horse, riding a horse or pretending you're a horse and running around and jumping over jumps in an open arena. Please help us save this place that is home to more than 60 horses. A place that so many have called a home away from home, even if for just a couple hours a day. A place that helps so many with athleticism like strength and balance. A place that teaches so many to be responsible and how to care for other beings. A happy place. Imagine your neighborhood park district run golf course, pool or other sports area decided to close out of the blue and it's the only one in the immediate area. Imagine that the closest option was several towns over and out of your budget. Well that's what happening with the Palatine Stables. They are give us students through the end of summer to ride and those who own horses until November to try to find a new home for the 60 plus horses that call the stables home. Me and my girl Daisy 🖤🤍 I have riden so many good horses but Daisy was differnt. We just got each other. My trainer, Toni, kept joking with me saying, "Are you sure you want to go to college and just stay here and buy her?" If you haven't heard, the Palatine Park District has decided to close down Palatine Stables at the end of this summer. A decision that was totally out of the blue. Their reasoning is that it would be too expensive to fix some structural issues that the inspector said have no immediate need to be fixed. Just sooner rather than later.
