Well this was revealed to be Goro Akechi’s desire scene many believe this could be the protagonist desire and I can see why considering Joker probably would like to do this but I guess his would be Akechi still being alive good thing for him it’s implied Akechi is alive in whichever choice. Also interestingly enough in the Persona 5 Royal Official Guide in a translation of it refers Ren, Goro and Kasumi dynamic as a love triangle. Wada: “I’m thinking that Akechi deep down in his heart, doesn’t give a damn about Sumire. So when he’s the navi, he does politely say “Yoshizawa-san is down!” when she’s down, but when Sumire attacks and misses, he’ll severely criticize her. He’ll coldly say something like “So that’s all you got huh”. In a sense, it’s like he’s involved in a love triangle going on with Protagonist (laughs). Also it was confirmed in the Royal Official Complete Guide that in the third semester that it was deliberate that Futaba and Haru distanced themselves from Akechi as they could never forgive and won’t be able sit even at the same table as Akechi in the Thieves Den because despite they respect his growth and help they cannot forgive him. Well apparently to Soejima he considers Ryuji crucial for the group dynamics because he is “devoid of all grace that the protagonist possessed”. To sort of parallel the gentlemen thief that was Joker apparently Soejima believes that Ryuji makes the story more grounded in a modern reality. During designing the character he tried to bring this delinquent type characters more cool vibe than mean spirited so he tried to make sure he doesn’t have too much white in his eyes. Interestingly enough Robin Hood and “Cooooome Looooooooki” are considered both aspects of Akechi and so came into fruition together than one turning into another.
