The works have a timeless aesthetic similar to Fujiwo Ishimoto’ s nature-themed canvas prints and the dreamlike tenacity of Kaarina Kaila’s illustrations for children’s books. This is a special watercolor for me. After almost a year has passed since the last watercolor I painted, I feel my blockages released. I have matured to reject perfectionism and enjoy the painting process from beginning to end. I love to paint and I will not listen to the voice of Ego, which discourages me from painting, the inner critic for whom everything must be perfect or not at all. Now I listen to the voice of Consciousness which says that I can do anything, I just have to believe. And my imagination has no limits. It will get better. I am happy and I love to learn about Spirituality. iJungle Illustration Awards 2024 CAICAI LI (CHN) - New Talent entry I incorporated “children trauma and healing” into my project as a form of mythological storytelling, which I had found to be an effective way of expressing the theme of trauma, metaphorical storytelling. When a child is deceived and traumatised, the companionship and love of the family and the absence of judgment is an effective forms of healing. Tokiossa vuonna 1986 syntynyt kuvittaja ja tekstiilitaiteilija Sawako Hoshi on valmistunut taiteen maisteriksi Aalto-yliopiston tekstiilitaiteen koulutusohjelmasta. Hän asuu ja työskentelee Helsingissä, ja on suunnitellut kuoseja yrityksille kuten Marimekko, Samuji, UNIQLO, Kurashicom ja Sangetsu. Sawako Hoshi luo raaputtamalla taideteoksia, jotka ilmentävät alati muuttuvan luonnon estetiikkaa. Kuvien pohjana toimivat muistinvaraiset maisemat, jotka hän piirtää öljypastelleilla paperille parissa kolmessa kerroksessa, ja työstää sen jälkeen hammastikulla. Metsässä -näyttely koostuu uusista teoksista ja painotekstiileistä, joissa Hoshi tavoittelee abstraktin ja konkreettisen rajalla olevaa maisemaa; sinistä hetkeä, jossa taiteilijan ja yleisön kokemukset risteytyvät. Galleria Kuvituksen aukioloajat: To-Pe 12-17 | La-Su 12-16 🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲 Born in Tokyo in 1986, illustrator and textile artist Sawako Hoshi holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Aalto University’s Textile Art programme. She lives and works in Helsinki, and has designed patterns for companies such as Marimekko, Samuji, UNIQLO, Kurashicom and Sangetsu. Hoshi creates works of art by scraping, reflecting the aesthetics of an ever-changing nature. The images are based on landscapes drawn from memory, which she draws with oil pastels on paper in two or three layers, and then works with a toothpick. The exhibition Metsässä (In the Forest) at Galleria Kuvitus consists of brand new works and printed textiles in which Hoshi pursues a landscape on the border between the abstract and the concrete; a blue moment where the experiences of the artist and the audience intersect.
