Too intense? Do you feel a little uncomfy? I did. When I realised I’d started pouring my heart out to Instagram more than I was to the Lord, the uncomfy feeling settled in. And it was here to stay, until I did something about it. Towards the end of last week I realised I hadn’t made content for a week. I could not work out why. I was frozen. Literally. I’ve heard the term “writers block” more than once, but never experienced it & definitely not to this scale. This was writers block, creative block, editing block, colour palette block, design block.. everything. I reached out to a friend and I was voicing my frustrations, questions and the uncomfy feeling rising from the pit of my stomach when she said something that flipped my world upside down in the best way. “Don’t let your social media posts replace your journal.” That was it. I’d stopped processing with the Lord first. I’d stopped bringing Him my highs and lows, triumphs and toils. For years I’ve said the words “gratitude is my attitude” but I’d forgotten the active practice. I had entered the pit of doing it alone. And I am consciously choosing to end that here. My journal is open again. I’m actively choosing to seek the Kingdom first. My creative block, I pray, will consequently cease in Jesus name. Don’t be afraid to take an audit of your life, our humanness is sometimes messy but thankfully we can live free of shame. What are some daily rhythms that help you seek the Kingdom first? There is so much within the pages of the Bible speaking of the heart! But none that touch me more than Psalms 24. 📖 The reality that I alone lift up the gates to my inner city! 💝 A friend of mine shared this quote with me by St. John Chrysostom and it rang in my thoughts the echos of this Psalm. 💫 Only I can let the Loving God of life in! There is such a joy in the foundation of this truth and yet such a responsibility & stewardship! It is I that lets Him in and it is I that shuts Him out! It is also I who lets in the devil and all his schemes and thoughts! Yet when we come into the full realization that our heart is simply the garden of an inner Eden then we can gain back control of the land within. Throwing out that which is unwelcome, weeds that choke out the good plants of the Word. Pull off the overgrowth in areas we would rather keep hidden! 👩🌾🪴 Each step we take in this journey we come to understand we are the gardeners learning from the master Gardener. My worst kept secret. Because here’s what I know.. We don’t have to be the expert. We don’t have to be the hero. We don’t have to know all the answers. We don’t have to be good at everything. We don’t have to have it all together all the time. We don’t have to be everything to everyone. It’s too much pressure. Pressure can be crippling. Pressure can stop you from using your gifts. Pressure can prevent you from showing up at all. I don’t believe the Lord intended for us to live a life of striving or survival, of fear or flailing. Trust (along with forgiveness and love) is very important in relationships. Work hard to build and maintain it. 💪 However, if you've been hurt many times before, chances are you have trust issues. Here's what you can do: First, invite God in and ask Him to heal you. Trust begins with God. Face the hurt. Forgive the person who violated your trust. If your situation allows it, go to them and talk it out. (Matthew 5: 23-24) Take some time to restore trust. The Bible says: "someone who has been offended is harder to be won than a strong city" (Proverbs 18:19). It will take time. Give yourself grace in the process as you learn to trust others again by giving them the benefit of the doubt. 📩 Save this if you'll need the reminder. 🙂Now, it's your turn. Did you ever do a cross-stitch project at school when you were younger? When finished you would proudly present the picture to your parents, but if you turned it over there would be disordered, tangled threads hidden behind the facing barely holding everything together. What looked unruffled on the outside revealed a big old state on the inside. In our social media driven world, we see lots of beautifully finished faces and people presented to the world. But I suspect that if you peeled back the veneer, what we’d often find inside would be a tangled mess of pain, issues, hurts and confusion doing everything they can to not fall apart. The good news is that Jesus didn’t come for those who have everything together. He came for the broken, the messy, the messed up and damaged. He came for those who struggle with identity, those who weep from inflicted pain, those who strive for significance, success and self-worth in all the wrong places. Jesus came not to save those “who think they are right with God” but to welcome, embrace, encourage and scoop up the sinners (Mark 2:16-18). Zacchaeus was a pretty messed up guy, but there was something about Jesus that made him overcome his challenges to get as close as he could (Luke 19:1-10). No matter how confused or messed up you might be feeling today, do what you can to come close to Jesus, and then watch as He makes the rest of the journey to come to you. “For the Son of Man [comes] to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10) Jesus wants to come to your home and heart today. Say amen if you know how important it is to teach your children at a young age the importance of the concept of not only resurrection, but also betrayal, rise and fall, faith, belief, forgiveness, fulfillment of promise, struggle in carrying your cross even in the midst of your mother who is powerless to save you from your enemies, and being hated by those who persecute you for your superior truth who choose to spare those who have no truth in them over you as they judge you as less than people who have zero truth in them and you are the embodiment of truth itself meaning they know not what they do and have zero discernment between truth and lies, righteousness and pride, enduring persecution even in your selfless giving spirit and overcoming it as they all eventually suffer the same fate of death that they wish upon you for carrying your cross having a relationship with an eternal truth-life growth standard that they have not as slaves to the prides and lies of the world and also to their own father’s prides in which they never mature past and serve wholeheartedly until silenced by death and are racing towards death within their lifestyles, ways and guise of freedom as slaves to a conformity of pride and lies. Expecting God to Move In Unexpected Ways in Our Lives “”Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? We all have been commissioned by the Lord to represent Him. We do so by building our house, our beliefs, our hearts, upon the firm foundation of the love of God and the truth of His word. Then we share this love and truth with others. It can be hard to stay focused on these two important tasks when we are overwhelmed in life but maybe it’s really that simple. Love Jesus. Love His Word. Love each other. Today, let’s ask the Lord to put some surprise opportunities in our way to share His love and truth with those around us who are suffering, lost, and without hope. Dear Jesus. It’s so hard to accept and understand our own suffering let alone share your promises to someone else who is broken. Teach us to accept your truth into our own hearts before we think we can share it with someone else. We pray for even a small understanding of your deep love for us and for your children. Saoirse has wanted a dog since before she could speak. Her first word was "puppy", and she spoke it relentlessly. She has spent months praying for birthday and Christmas puppies. "Sometimes God just doesn't answer your prayers", I overheard her tell her friend Claire, who at just over 3 is new to the art of conversation. "That's nice!" Claire responded with enthusiasm, "Then what happened?" Saoirse paused. "Well, nothing happened. Nothing happened yet." This picture is from a few years ago, she's standing there with a toy dog that is physically attached to its leash. This is a now/and not yet dog for her. It brings joy in the present reality, while also representing a longing for something to come. Which reminds me of the language we use to talk about God. The metaphors we use are both now and not yet, and they tether us to seeing God in new ways. They invite us to reimagine the depth of his great love. In Episode 2, Elisa talks about God like a Labrador: big and comforting, coming to sit with her. There in the quiet. Yesterday, my sister Dean, was talking about moments of feeling trapped. She was describing the feeling of being stuck, like being trapped under the snow. It's those moments where we see the warning signs, we know the slopes, but we still end up in the same place. We still end up trapped in the avalanche. Imprisoned by our choices, or our emotions, or our mindset. These are the moments when it feels like God is silent. Or silently judgmental. Or absent. These are the moments when we pray, or try to pray and nothing happens. Recently, Dean said, she feeling the weight of her stuckness, when she was surprised by this image of a super joyful, energetic St. Bernard, bounding through the snow on a rescue mission; persistently snuffling through the snow, with single focus and with joy in his eyes. And then she realized it was an image of God. God like a St. Bernard coming to find her with joy and excitement in his eyes, tongue hanging out in a perpetual smile as he searches to pull her out. He isn't mad, or disappointed. He doesn't say to do better or try harder. Instead, the message is love. He just delights in finding her and being with her.
